Hennessy Hennessy was invented by Irishman Richard in 1765. Founded by Richard Hennessy, who served as an officer in the army of King Louis XV of France in the 1740s and was stationed in the famous Cognac region of France. After Jean Fairvot became the first master blender of Hennessy in 1800, the quality of Hennessy was greatly improved and it was favored by the French royal family and nobles at that time. In 1815, the French Emperor Louis XIII specially issued a letter to select Hennessy. As the main wine supplier to the French Parliament, Hennessy's brand status was established.
In the early days of Hennessy Distillery, it mainly sold to the UK. After years of development, Hennessy's Cognac has been sold all over the world and entered the Chinese market as early as 1859. Since 1989, Hennessy has been a member of the LVMH Group, which also owns the well-known champagne brand Moët & Chandon and the luxury brand Louis Vuitton.
Cognac is mainly made from Ugni Blanc grapes, which are harvested only once a year. After the wine is made, it is distilled twice. The first distilled wine is called "brouillis", and the second distillation will make the alcohol content higher. It is worth mentioning that it takes 12 kilograms of grapes to make 1 liter of cognac.
The wine is aged in oak barrels and aged for a specified period of time according to the grade. V.S.O.P needs to be aged for at least 4 years, and X.O needs to be aged for 10 years. Hennessy has as many as 65 wine cellars and stores up to 350,000 barrels of wine. Hennessy has specially set up a tasting committee, and the members regularly taste each barrel of wine according to the strictest standards. Those that do not meet the standards will be eliminated. The committee determines the appropriate blending ratio to ensure that every bottle of Cognac achieves the same aromatic and taste qualities.
Hennessy V.S.O.P
In 1817, James Hennessy specially blended a unique wine for British Crown Prince George IV. VSOP refers to Very Superior Old Pale (high-quality aged light-colored wine). It has the aroma of fresh fruits and is full-bodied with fruity aromas, vanilla, spice and a touch of tobacco.
Hennessy X.O
As early as 1870 by Morris. A series launched by Maurice Hennessy, X.O (Extra Old) is a Hennessy original and is known for its strong, vibrant and round taste. Later it became one of the levels in the French Cognac grading system. Intense flavour, with candied fruit, black pepper and a hint of chocolate, with lingering vanilla and oak notes.
Hennessy Paradis Cognac
A series launched in 2011 inspired by the cognac produced by Hennessy for Tsar Alexander I in 1818. It has aromas of jasmine, cinnamon and exotic fruits, and a very elegant and smooth taste.
Hennessy Richard Cognac
Created by the famous winemaker Yann Fillioux and launched in 1996, the wine bottles used are all hand-blown crystal glass bottles with independent numbers printed on them, which are quite precious. With floral notes, soft spices, nutmeg and a hint of anise, the aroma is complex and layered.
In addition to the above-mentioned series, Hennessy collaborates with celebrities, artists, and wine merchants from time to time to launch co-branded wines and holiday limited editions. For example, Hennessy V.S.O.P x NBA limited edition, Hennessy Paradise X Yan Pei Ming and other wines.
