【Chateau Batailley】

Chateau Batailley位於波亞克Pauillac村莊中的1855分級五級莊，酒莊名“Bataille＂源自於1452年的一場戰役battle，當時法國軍隊從英軍奪回Château Latour標誌著結束英軍對梅多克地區的統治。隨後在1816年被知名波爾多酒商Guestier家族所有，當時Lynch Bages, Grand Puy Lacoste, Beychevelle數間名莊都是他的管轄之下，隨即立馬改善Batailley釀酒設備，在他的管理之下品質享譽盛名。1942年，Borie家族兩兄弟Marcel Borie和Francois Borie將酒莊劃分成兩個列級莊Chateau Batailley和Chateau Haut Batailley並分別持有，如今Frederic Casteja掌管著Chateau Batailley，而旗下還有Chateau Lynch- Moussas, Chateau Trottevieille這兩間左右岸列級莊。

葡萄園主要由四個部分組成，卻可以細分成60個獨立地塊，土壤由 gravel，clay和 sandy soils組成，而下層有更多的 clay和sandstone，深而貧乏的土質，使葡萄樹更堅韌不拔，從而生產出高品質的葡萄酒，目前還有5公頃的葡萄田施行生物動力法更重。酒莊使用60個溫控不銹鋼罐進行發酵，分別對應60個地塊，實現了單一地塊單獨發酵，為最終調配葡萄酒提供了更多選擇，然後在在55％的新法國橡木桶中陳化16至18個月。直到2015年酒莊才發行副牌酒Lions de Batailley，在此之前專一打造正牌。

It has an intense graphite infused bouquet with fine delineation, some freshly picked Pauillac mint coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin that grip the mouth insistently; with graphite and tobacco-infused black fruit dominating, this a classically styled Batailley in the vein of previous vintages with the elegance coming through towards the finish. This is one of those wines that grows on you, perhaps not as easy or as charming to taste as other Pauillac 2016s at this stage, but knowing this property well, I know how it can blossom when it matters, which is when you and I drink it.

An attractive nose of creme de cassis,earth and oak jumps from the glass of this dense ruby/purple-colored wine. Aclassic, impressive effort from the Casteja family, this 2011 transcends thevintage character, and is an unqualified success as well as a major sleeper ofthe vintage. Structured, rich, medium to full-bodied, pure and layered, itshould be at its finest in 3-4 years, and keep for two decades.
