Crus Bourgeois is a grading system jointly developed and implemented by the French Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Agricultural Committee in 1932, because Bourgeois can be translated as "middle class", and Cru Bourgeois is also translated as the middle estate level. It is one of the historic classifications in the Médoc region on the left bank of Bordeaux. Since it was officially recognized by the government in 2003, it has adopted the form of the first review every year to award the outstanding wines participating in the selection of the year.
Beginning in 2007, wines rated as Cru Bourgeois "only represent quality, not grade". It will be open to all wineries in the Médoc region, as long as these wineries follow the wine production rules and the quality reaches the standard, they can be identified as Cru Bourgeois. The basis of the 2007 standard: 1. Represents quality, not grade; 2. Specified wine-making methods, special wine tasting certification; 3. An independent organization conducts certification once a year; 4. All wineries in the Médoc region Can apply for certification.
In 2008 nearly 300 chateaux were certified, either with at least 7 hectares of vines in the Haute-Médoc or with at least 4 hectares in one of the villages).
Most of the middle class wineries are distributed outside the four regions of the Médoc (Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac, Saint-Julien, Margaux), because these four regions (especially Pauillac) are the world of classified wines. Most of them are located in Médoc and Haut-Médoc, where there are a total of 140 bourgeois wineries accounting for 70% of the production. There are often "hidden dragons and tigers" in middle-class chateaus. Its high quality and reasonable price are often synonymous with excellent value for money.
Each bottle of the 2016 vintage will be affixed with an anti-counterfeit code as follows: Consumers can enter the unique code of each bottle through the official website of the Crus Bourgeois Alliance (www.crus-bourgeois.com), and read the information of the relevant Crus Bourgeois on the website page. information.
From 2020, the latest classification system of Bordeaux Bourgeois will be officially implemented. The new classification also divides the selected cru Bourgeois into three levels from high to low: Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, Cru Bourgeois Superieur and Cru Bourgeois. In addition, the current annual selection will be changed to a grading selection every five years.
