The Strathclyde Distillery is located in Glasgow, the capital of Scotland in the Low Countries (Glasgow currently has another distillery, the Glasgow Distillery). It was founded in 1927 by Seager Evans, a company established in London in 1805 by James Lys Seager and William Evans, which also owned the Millbank Distillery. Simultaneously with the establishment of Strathclyde, Long John International Ltd was created to oversee the Scottish whisky industry.
The Strathclyde Distillery primarily produces grain whisky using column stills. Its main raw material is wheat, and all whiskies are used for blending. Due to its high production volume and ease of equipment expansion, there are not as many grain distilleries as malt distilleries. In fact, as each distillery has gradually expanded, the number of distilleries has actually decreased; today, only six grain distilleries remain in Scotland.

In 1957, the distillery was purchased by an American company, which established the Kinclaith malt whisky distillery on the same premises. However, in 1975, the distillery was acquired by Whitbread, now the largest hotel and restaurant group in the UK, and the malt distillery was closed to make room for the production of grain whisky.
Union Tommy acquired ownership in July 2005, and the distillery became part of the Pernod Ricard Group. Currently, it produces 40 million liters of grain whisky annually, primarily for its Ballantine's and Chivas blended whisky brands. Because single grain whiskies require many years of aging to develop their aroma structure, most popular single grain whiskies are older vintages released by independent bottlers.

Douglas Thomson Single Grain Scotch Whisky is bottled by the talented Thompson Brothers of Dornoch. Distilled in 1993, it was first matured in bourbon casks and then in a quarter sherry cask. Bottled at 47.9% ABV, this uncolored and unfrozen spirit is light, delicate, and smooth, with the aging notes of nearly thirty years.
