Domaine Alain Michelot's history dates back to the early 1880s. From its inception to the present, the winery has been managed by four generations, currently by Alain, his daughter Elodie, and son-in-law Christophe. Located in the Nuits-Saint-Georges sub-appellation of the Côte d’Or in Burgundy, France, it is a well-known small winery within the region.

The winery owns 8 hectares of vineyards, including nine renowned vineyards in Clos de Vougeot, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Nuits-Saint-Georges. 7.5 hectares are located in Nuits-Saint-Georges (half of which are Premier Cru), while the remainder are in Morey-Saint-Denis, planted with Pinot Noir vines over 45 years old. This wine comes from Aux Chaignots, a Premier Cru vineyard within the Nuits-Saint-Georges village-level AOC. Therefore, wines made from grapes grown in this vineyard according to the Nuits-Saint-Georges AOC regulations can bear the title "Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru" on their labels and can also feature the vineyard's name.

Since 2001, the winery has employed a rigorous grape selection process using the Table de Tri (selection table). The grapes are completely destemmed, and the pulp is treated with minimal sulfur dioxide. Fermentation then proceeds slowly and extensively, aided by the native yeasts on the grape skins. Saignée (bleeding) is sometimes used when necessary. The fermentation process is quite lengthy, maintained at a temperature of 28-30°C. Fermentation lasts approximately 7-10 days and is typically done without the addition of sugar. The proportion of new oak barrels varies each vintage, but for Nuits-Saint-Georges village wines, it does not exceed 25%, and for Premier Cru wines, it does not exceed 30%, to prevent the oak barrels from having an excessive influence on the wine's quality. After 20 months, the wine is gently filtered before bottling. It's worth noting that Domaine Alain Michelot produces very little lees during its winemaking process, thus avoiding the need for fining before bottling.
Vineyards from Domaine Alain Michelot produce wines with a balanced structure and smooth palate, making them excellent entry-level wines for Nuits-Saint-Georges. Firstly, they fully express the local terroir; secondly, they exhibit pronounced primary aromas of Pinot Noir fruit and complex secondary aromas; and finally, they have excellent aging potential and are enjoyable at all stages of life. The renowned French wine writer Remington Norman praised Domaine Alain Michelot Les Porrets (Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru) as bold and ambitious.
