Distillery

The story of this liqueur begins in 1510, reportedly with its invention by Dom Bernardo Vincelli, a monk at the Abbey of Fécamp. The recipe was lost during the French Revolution but was rediscovered in 1863 by a local wine merchant, Alexandre Le Grand, who resumed its production and named it "Bénédictine" in honor of its monastic origins. The letters "D.O.M." on the label stand for the Latin phrase "Deo Optimo Maximo"—meaning "To God, most good, most great." Today, the liqueur is produced at the magnificent "Palais Bénédictine" in Fécamp—a structure commissioned by the founder that serves as both a distillery and a museum.
Winemaking
Twenty-seven botanicals and spices are macerated in alcohol and then distilled in copper stills. The resulting "essence" is aged in oak barrels, with saffron added at the final stage to achieve its characteristic color.
Tasting Note

The liqueur features an amber hue and an aromatic bouquet dominated by citrus, spices, and honey. On the palate, it is rich, smooth, and warming, offering distinct herbal notes balanced by a pleasant sweetness.
