Winery

Maison Benjamin Leroux is situated in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy, France, and is a small boutique estate within this appellation.

Established in 2007, Maison Benjamin Leroux is a very young estate, yet its proprietor, Benjamin Leroux, comes from a distinguished background. Though not born into a winemaking family, Benjamin resolved to become a vintner from childhood. At thirteen, he enrolled at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune, subsequently earning a degree in oenology from the University of Dijon. From the age of twenty-six, he served as chief winemaker at Domaine Comte Armand. Benjamin possesses profound and comprehensive knowledge of the terroirs within the Cote de Beaune vineyards, coupled with a strong innovative spirit in winemaking. Renowned wine critic Allen Meadows not only praises him as one of the region's most gifted and talented winemakers but also regards him as the most likely successor to Burgundy's master winemaker Henri Jayer.

Maison Benjamin Leroux owns relatively few vineyards, sourcing most of its grapes from other growers. Benjamin's objective is to produce wines of comparable quality to those from premier domaines without extensive vineyard holdings. To achieve this, he sets stringent requirements for his partner growers. These are predominantly long-standing acquaintances who practise organic or biodynamic viticulture and consistently deliver grapes of exceptional quality. Benjamin frequently remunerates these growers based on vineyard area rather than grape yield, thereby securing absolute control over ripeness, production levels, and harvest timing. He also excels at identifying lesser-known vineyards possessing exceptional terroir, treating each such plot with the same dedication and attention as a Grand Cru.

Region

Meursault is the village where Benjamin has invested most heavily and holds the largest number of vineyard parcels. The plot ‘Les Vireuils’, situated at the crest of the slope, is another of Benjamin's long-standing favourites among the higher-altitude vineyards. Its crisp acidity and mineral character more directly express this parcel's distinctive and powerful terroir identity.

In its youth, it presents a more compact profile, exuding delicate lemon blossom aromas. The wine exhibits a lean structure with a mineral-driven salinity, revealing formidable ageing potential. Neal Martin of Wine Advocate once described it as bearing certain impressions of Coche Dury.

Winemaking 
The vineyards are tended using organic and biodynamic methods. Grapes are destemmed and fermented using entirely natural yeasts. New oak barrels are employed with great restraint, accounting for approximately 30% of the Premier Cru cuvée.
