Winery】

Located in Mainqué, the heart of the Río Negro Valley in Argentina’s Patagonia region, Bodega Aniello traces its origins back to 1927 when it was established by early Italian immigrants who pioneered viticulture in the far south.

"Aniello" is a traditional Neapolitan surname, symbolizing the blend of Italian passion and Patagonian terroir. In 2010, agricultural engineer and winery director María Cruz De Angelis revived her great-grandfather's 1927 pioneering legacy, teaming up to officially reshape Bodega Aniello into an iconic female-led boutique winery. The winery collaborates with legendary chief winemaker Federico Moreira—a true industry pioneer who crafted Argentina’s very first vintage of Trousseau and led the innovation of White Pinot Noir. Under this visionary team, Bodega Aniello preserves its original 1927 concrete vats (cement vats) to craft small-lot, character-driven wines that capture the elegant soul of Patagonia’s extreme cool climate.

Today, the winery spans approximately 55 hectares of estate vineyards, planted with Malbec, Pinot Noir, Trousseau, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay. The 003 Riverside Estate series stands as the quintessential expression of the unique Río Negro terroir.

【Region】

Patagonia — Argentina’s Cool-Climate Hidden Gem

Patagonia is a vast geographic region located at the far southern tip of Argentina, and Río Negro is its most historic and renowned wine region. Bodega Aniello sits right at the very heart of this premier valley. What makes the wines here so unique comes down to three key elements of its natural terroir: positioned at 39° South latitude, the region’s cool climate is constantly swept by powerful, purifying winds that act like a natural air purifier, blowing away humidity and disease so the grapes grow in an exceptionally pristine, pollution-free environment; extreme daily temperature swings ("warm days, cold nights") allow the sunny daytime to build rich fruit flavors while the cool nights preserve vibrant natural acidity, leading to a slow ripening process that builds complex, elegant layers without any cloying sweetness; finally, the alluvial soils formed over centuries by river deposits—packed with sand, gravel, and stones—provide excellent drainage and impart a unique, crisp mineral freshness reminiscent of pure mountain spring water.

【Winemaking】

The wines of Bodega Aniello beautifully express the distinctive cool-climate terroir of Patagonia’s Río Negro at 39° South latitude, crafted under the visionary guidance of Chief Winemaker Federico Moreira, who strictly adheres to the philosophy of authentic microclimate expression.

Across the portfolio, grapes are 100% hand-harvested into small 15–18 kg crates to prevent premature crushing and oxidation. Harvesting takes place at the precise moment of optimal sweetness and acidity balance, driven by the valley's significant diurnal temperature variation (thermal amplitude) to preserve vibrant natural freshness. Following rigorous double manual sorting, the fruit undergoes cold pre-fermentation maceration (8°C–10°C) to gently extract delicate floral aromas, fresh fruit characters, and vivid pigments prior to alcohol production.

Fermentation relies heavily on the winery’s historic 1927 concrete tanks as well as temperature-controlled stainless steel. The concrete tanks offer superior thermal stability and subtle micro-oxygenation, allowing for gentle extraction techniques that round out the tannins while eliminating harshness. Throughout aging, heavy new oak influence is avoided to safeguard the pure expression of fruit, delicate florals, and striking earthy minerals—yielding a range of cool-climate wines defined by exceptional freshness, elegance, and structured balance.
