Bowmore 15-year-old is matured in carefully selected American bourbon barrels and Spanish Oloroso sherry barrels, combining perfect sweetness and unique smokiness; it presents a rich dark chocolate, mature raisin aroma and Islay's unique peat flavor, delicately balanced.

Color: yellow-brown

Taste: has a wonderful cedar wood and rich toffee molasses taste

Finish: subtle changes and long-lasting

Although Bowmore was licensed in 1779, locals know that it was established 10 years earlier. It was the first licensed distillery in Islay and the second in Scotland, and it changed hands many times.

In 1837, twin brothers William and James Mutter from Glasgow bought Bowmore from the Simpson family and built water barrels to draw water from the River Laggan.

50 years later, in 1887, the Great Depression caused the Mutter family to sell the distillery to John Bell Sherriff from Campbeltown.

In 1892, it was bought by a consortium headed by Joseph Robert Holmes and officially named Bowmore Distillery Co.

In 1925, it was bought again by the Sherriff family, and James Bell Sherriff changed the name to Sherriff’s Bowmore Distillery.

During World War II, the Bowmore Distillery was requisitioned by the British Royal Air Force Coastal Command to assist in the war, so production stopped. Three squadrons operated from the distillery between 1940 and 1943.

Bought by whisky broker Stanley P Morrison Ltd in 1963

In 1980, just after Bowmore’s 200th anniversary, Queen Elizabeth visited the distillery, her first visit to the distillery. The Queen was also presented with a cask of Bowmore, which was sold to raise funds for local charities.

In recent years, in 2014, Japanese giant Beam Suntory acquired Bowmore and added the Japanese wooden barrel Mizunara cask wine, as well as various joint series and extremely high-year top models, pushing Bowmore to new heights!

However, Bowmore still respects tradition, such as retaining the traditional floor sun-drying germination to retain the natural sweetness of barley. Combined with the peat from the nearby swamp, Bowmore continues to create the sweet, slightly smoked Islay style with a sea breeze and sea salt.
