Charles de Cazanove is brewed with Chardonnay from Cote des Blancs and Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims. These grapes come from Premier Cru Villages! 2016 is an excellent year for Champagne. It has fine bubbles and fruity aromas of flowers, pear, peach and light citrus. Not only does it have a fresh style, but it also has mature flavors that bring rich almonds, bread and candied fruits. The whole style combined makes for an absolutely delicious and well-balanced Champagne.
The history of the de Cazanove family dates back to the 16th century. At that time, a glassmaker from the Bigault de Cazanove family travelled to Venice, the world centre of glass, to improve his knowledge and craft. On his return, he brought back with him his expertise, which has been passed down from generation to generation.
One of the descendants of this family of master glassmakers, Charles Gabriel, a young man of 24, founded his Champagne House Charles de Cazanove in Avize, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, in 1811. He chose to keep only the name Cazanove as a tribute to his grandfather and his trip to Venice (Casanova, i.e. Nouvelle Maison, francisé en Cazanove). His son, Charles Nicolas, made a major contribution to the growth of the brand. The House supplied the French presidents of the Third Republic, Mac-Mahon, Sadi Carnot and Emile Loubet, among others.
In 1902, Edward VII, King of the United Kingdom, had Charles de Cazanove Champagne specially imported from France with his personal label. The men of the eponymous family succeeded one another and developed the House. Roger de Cazanove and his brother Hubert were killed in the First World War. Amaury de Cazanove became Chairman of the company in 1954. His arrival was accompanied by the acquisition of a stake in the company by non-family members. Subsequently, the company passed through several hands in a series of takeovers.
In 2004, the Rapeneau family, in Champagne since 1901, acquired Maison Charles de Cazanove. This marked the beginning of a new era of stability and renaissance for the brand, and its anchoring in Reims’ historic quarter.
A complex vintage that reflects the talent of our workforce despite the weather. In 2016, the spring was extraordinarily wet and cool, giving way to a very dry summer. This climatic balancing act provided a pleasant surprise during the harvest, when the grapes matured in a very special way. Predominantly Chardonnay (60%) from the Côte des Blancs, this cuvée combines elegant, velvety flavours.
TASTING NOTES
Eye: The colour is a deep and golden yellow.
Nose: The nose is fresh and warm. It reveals savours
of white fruits. Then, the citrus register appears with subtlety.
Palate: Smoothie ang pleasant, the palate is a silky case. Well balanced, it unveils its gourmet by
fruity notes.
