Winery

Chateau Haut Pougnan, located in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, has been owned by the Gueridon family since 1852, boasting over 170 years of history. Since Jean Gueridon took over in 1995, he has been committed to environmental protection and sustainable development, while simultaneously introducing modern equipment, significantly improving the quality of the wines. Over the decades, the winery has won numerous awards in international competitions, consistently producing high-quality wines at affordable prices.
The vineyards cover approximately 40 hectares, with 13 hectares planted with white grape varieties (approximately 70% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Sémillon, and 5% Muscadelle) and the remaining 27 hectares planted with red grape varieties (approximately 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Francs). The soil is primarily clay-limestone and chalky. The average vineyard age is 20 years. The winery has banned chemical pesticides, switching to biological control and emphasizing sustainable development. The winery obtained environmental certification early on.
Region

Entre-Deux-Mers, located in the southeastern part of the Gironde department in the Aquitaine region, at the confluence of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, is a vast, triangular expanse of limestone land. Spanning 3,000 hectares, it is the largest wine-producing region in Bordeaux in terms of planted vineyards.
Entre-Deux-Mers is a vast area with varied terrain, including hills, slopes, and plains. Vineyards range in elevation from 10 to 100 meters. Due to its large size, the soils are diverse, primarily composed of limestone, clay, sand, and gravel deposited by ancient rivers, and exhibit excellent drainage.
Regarding winemaking...

Harvesting is done entirely by hand from late August to mid-September. After light pressing and cold maceration, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. 10% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 3 months, while the remainder is matured in stainless steel tanks to maintain its fresh fruitiness.
