Chateau Saint-paul is a wine from the Haut-Medoc region of Bordeaux, France, and was named in the Cru Bourgeois list published by the L'Alliance des Crus Bourgeois in 2012. The vineyards are located in the Saint Estèphe area and are divided into two estates: château sociando-mallet and château charmail. The estate dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries and has been owned by the Lacaze family.

This wine is a Cru Bourgeois - a dry French red wine from St. Paul's. The 2000 and 2004 vintages were awarded one star by Birch Hints, and the 2011 vintage was rated 15.5 by Jesse Robinson.

The word Bourgeois in Cru Bourgeois means ‘middle class’, which is how the term ‘Cru Bourgeois’ was originally translated. The ‘Cru Bourgeois’ was initiated in 1932 by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bordeaux and the Agricultural Council of Gironde, and it was not until 2003 that the French government enacted a law officially granting 247 châteaux this title, and classifying them according to their quality into Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, Cru Bourgeois Superieur and Cru Bourgeois Bourgeois Superior, and Cru Bourgeois Superieur. It is classified according to quality as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, Cru Bourgeois Superieur and Cru Bourgeois. Many of the wineries that did not make the cut protested against the unfairness of the new classification system, forcing the Bordeaux Administrative Court to announce in 2007 that the 2003 Act (with its three classes) would be cancelled and that the list of Cru Bourgeois would be reverted to the 1932 version. Fortunately, the one-year rating system that had been in place for many years for the Cru Bourgeois has come to an end, and has been replaced by a five-year rating system. The earlier three-tier grading system has also been revived, with the three grades being determined by a blind tasting of a random selection of ‘five of the winery's vintages from the last 10 years’ to see if quality has improved or deteriorated, bringing back the quality grading system that was in place at the time, and ultimately categorising them into three grades based on quality, with the highest grades potentially being removed from the list if no winery meets the criteria. 2020 will see only 179 wineries in the country. In 2020, only 179 châteaux in France will be classified as Cru Bourgeois, 55 in the Haut-Medoc region, and Château Saint Paul will be one of them!

The estate covers 22 hectares with gravel and clay soils, and the vines average 40 years old. The harvested high-quality grapes are selected, crushed, and then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The resulting wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months before being bottled at the estate. Furthermore, since 2009, the estate has received assistance from acclaimed winemaker Stephane Derenoncourt, further enhancing the quality of its wines.
