ZTF449D - Chateau Saint Pierre Grand Cru Classes 2017 聖皮耶城堡
【酒莊 Winery】

Chateau Saint-Pierre is a fourth-growth estate owned by Henri Martin, a winemaker known as the "Soul of the Médoc." He owned four vineyards in the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation and acquired the Cru Bourgeois Château Bel Air in the Haut-Médocuco region in the early 1980s. The estate covers a total area of over 105 hectares. Henri Martin passed away in 1991, and the estate is now managed by his daughter Françoise and son-in-law Jean-Louis Triaud, with assistance from their children Vanessa and Jean.

Henri Martin was not only a winemaker and mayor of Saint Julien, but also one of the most celebrated figures in 20th-century Bordeaux winemaking. He also served as president of the Girondins football club. Born in 1903 at Chateau Gruaud Larose, his grandfather was a cellar master. His father was a Cooper, just as he was at the beginning of his career. The family had lived in Bordeaux for over three centuries – almost entirely laborers, vineyard workers and cellar workers. Martin ran Chateau Latour for many years with Jean-Paul Gardere (he also came from aristocratic lineage), and by the time of his death in 1991, Henri Martin was known as the “Soul of the Médoc.” He also owned other wineries: Château Haut-Beychevelle Gloria, Château Bel Air, Château Gloria, and Château Pey-Martin.
【產區 Region】

Saint-Julien, located in the heart of the Médoc appellation, covers 900 hectares and is one of the six renowned sub-regions of the Médoc. The main grape varieties grown in Saint-Julien are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Wines from the north exhibit the power of Pauillac, while those from the south draw inspiration from the softness of Margaux. Overall, Saint-Julien wines are vibrant in color, rich in juice, and truly divine, immersing wine lovers in a feast for the senses with their fragrant aromas and exquisitely delicate palates.
【有關釀造 Winemaking】

This fourth-growth Bordeaux wine is made from grapes grown on average 50-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for 14-16 months. It has a rich oak aroma and palate, rounded tannins, and delicate, subtle tobacco and herbal notes, as well as ripe berry and rich coffee flavors. It has a very long finish and excellent aging potential.
【James Suckling 93 pts】
Smooth, finely silky, and supple with a wealth of fleshy berries (blueberries, red/black currants), racy graphite, and spicy oak integration.
【Robert Parker 93 pts】
The deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Saint-Pierre is a little reticent, giving glimpses at warm cassis, baked plums, tobacco and pencil shavings notes with a touch of forest floor. Medium-bodied with a muscular core of sustained black fruit, it has a grainy frame and plenty of freshness, finishing with impressive length.
