La Forge de Tart is not from a separate vineyard, but rather comes from younger vines on plots within the winery's renowned single Grand Cru vineyard, Clos de Tart, as well as wines not included in the final Grand Cru blend. In other words, it can be considered a "second label" of Clos de Tart Grand Cru. The winery first selects the finest barrel-aged wines to blend into Clos de Tart Grand Cru, while the remaining high-quality but more mature and approachable portions are downgraded and released as La Forge de Tart.

Clos de Tart, one of Burgundy's most legendary estates, is located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits village of Morey-Saint-Denis. Founded in 1141, it boasts over 900 years of history.
Unlike most prestigious Burgundy vineyards, Clos de Tart has never been divided through inheritance throughout its long history, remaining completely intact to this day. This makes it one of Burgundy's most renowned Grand Cru Monopole estates.

The entire Clos de Tart Grand Cru vineyard covers only 7.53 hectares, making it the largest of Burgundy's five Grand Cru Monopole estates. Because the vineyard has never been divided, the winery has complete control over every detail from viticulture to winemaking, ensuring the terroir is fully preserved.
The winery's history dates back to 1141, founded by Cistercian nuns at Tart Abbey. After the French Revolution, it passed to the Marey-Monge family, and subsequently to the Mommessin family for nearly a century. In 2018, Clos de Tart was acquired by Artémis Domaines, a subsidiary of the French luxury goods giant Pinault, officially joining the ranks of world-renowned estates such as Château Latour, Domaine d'Eugénie, Eisele Vineyard, and Château-Grillet, ushering in a new chapter.
Today, Clos de Tart fully adopts organic and biodynamic methods to manage its vineyards and maintains its own vineyards, committed to preserving the precious gene pool and terroir accumulated over nine centuries. In Burgundy, Clos de Tart is not just a winery name, but a legendary symbol on par with Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, and Clos de la Roche.
