Rating / Tasting Note: L'Amateur is made from 100% Chardonnay, resulting in a Blanc de Blancs Champagne. The palate reveals aromas of lemon, apricot, and mango, with a distinctly savory flavor. It displays a lively and exuberant style. Overall, it is very elegant, with a strong Chablis mineral character. Pairing it with light seafood, such as sashimi or oysters, would elevate the overall experience to another level.

Winery


The history of this small family-owned winery on the southern slopes of Epernay in the La Marne Valley begins in 1925 when Jean-Marc's grandfather, Henri, came from his native Poland to settle in Boursault. Henri and his wife, Françoise Bagnost, ran a small farm; she herself came from a family of Champagne growers. In the 1960s, Henri planted vines in the already prestigious Moussy and Pierry regions, releasing his first wines in 1969. His son, Richard, is a trained winemaker who has made significant contributions to modern practices, as well as to clarifying winemaking methods and breeding.

Region



The winery owns only 3 hectares of vineyards, making it a small-scale, high-quality Champagne producer. Its winemaking philosophy adheres to pure nature, respects the ecosystem, and avoids artificial techniques. The vineyards are located in the village of Trépail on the southeastern slopes of the Reims Mountains, with soils rich in flint clay and limestone.

Winemaking



Furthermore, David Leclapart never adds sugar (Dosage) to his wines, and all his wines undergo malolactic conversion. Without clarification or filtration, and without additional lactic acid control during malolactic fermentation, he presents the most natural Champagne to his connoisseurs. The winery's total annual production is only 12,000 to 15,000 bottles.
