The Circle of Fifths series blends grapes from only a few single vineyards in roughly equal proportions—comprised of batches not selected for the single vineyard wines that year. These batches bring together the strengths of each unique vineyard, collectively telling a new story. “If the single vineyard wines are the pure notes of each vineyard, then Circle of Fifths is the chord that strings them together.” — Melanie Chester

100% hand-harvested and meticulously hand-sorted within the vineyard. The grapes are then transported to the winery, chilled overnight to 4°C, and pressed the following day. Chardonnay is fermented whole-cluster in stainless steel/wooden barrels, then transferred along with the lees to French oak barrels for further aging, 15% in new barrels and the remainder in neutral barrels.

Aromas include white nectarine, lemon, flint, and citrus peel. The palate is tight and precise, with melon and citrus fruit at its core, accompanied by salty nuts, minerality, and subtle floral notes. A bright, acidic framework supports a long, juicy finish. Lively and refined in style, it is both a tribute to and a reflection of the uniqueness of each individual vineyard, and a truly satisfying masterpiece in itself.

A blend of equal portions of all the Giant Steps single-vineyard wines. With its aromas of white nectarine, lemon verbena, a little cashew and attractive marine scents, this is immediately appealing. On the palate it's concentrated with grapefruit pith and lemony acidity on the long finish.

A blend of lots from five single-vineyard bottlings, this chardonnay sits on the edge of reduction, with aromas of flint, phosphorus, lemon pith, grapefruit rind, chalk and orange blossoms. The palate is mid-weighted and textural, with a strong mineral drive and a high level of polish, leading into a mouthwatering finish. All the flashiness of the single-vineyard wines at a more approachable price.

There is the austerity of acidity and cavalcade of crushed, salted and pasted nuts, lemon zest, citrus oil and green leaves, coupled finally with the floral and tea-like notes evident in all five cuvées.

The 2024 Chardonnay Circle of Fifths is perky, compact and precise, with a firm, tight core of melon and citrus. Nougat barrel ferment and oak spice just poke through. Chalky acidity frames the palate, while tense, fine-boned flavors are seamlessly balanced and maintain the wine's linear shape through a cylindrical finish of extreme length. A sleeper but worth waiting for.

In Australia's Yarra Valley, a region renowned as one of the world's best wine-producing areas for cool-climate climates, lies a winery named after a jazz melody—Giant Steps. Not only a legend in the Australian wine world, it also garnered significant attention in 2025, winning both the "Winery of the Year" and "Best Pinot Noir" awards at the Halliday Wine Companion.

Giant Steps' story began in 1997 when founder Phil Sexton, a brewing pioneer from Margaret River, was drawn to the Yarra Valley by his passion for wine, seeking the ideal place to cultivate pure and elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Phil is not only a winemaker but also a passionate jazz enthusiast. He named the winery after John Coltrane's classic album *Giant Steps*, hoping it would emulate the album's revolutionary "giant steps" in the world of wine.

In 2003, winemaker Steve Flamsteed joined Phil, initiating a single-vineyard winemaking project focused on expressing the terroir of different plots in the Yarra Valley. In 2021, the talented Mel Chester took over as Director of Winemaking and Viticulture, leading the winery to new heights. With a focus on grape selection and a commitment to restoring Château Haut-Brion wines to the quality and image of the early 20th century, he has established new milestones for the winery's style and reputation.

The Yarra Valley boasts the oldest viticultural history in Victoria, with a cool climate and diverse geology. Giant Steps currently owns and manages several top single vineyards within the Yarra Valley, each piece of land contributing a unique character to its wines.

Giant Steps' winemaking philosophy can be summarized in two words: Purity and Finesse. The winery adheres to sustainable development and organic farming, respecting the natural growth of the grapes.

In the winemaking process, the winery employs a low-intervention approach:

· 100% hand-harvested: ensuring the quality of every single grape.

· Local yeast fermentation: utilizing a natural microbial ecosystem to promote fermentation by local yeasts, adding complexity.

· Gravity Flow: in a modern gravity-flow winery, using physical principles to gently treat the wine, avoiding rough pumping.

· Minimal clarification and filtration: preserving the wine's most original flavors and textures.
