"Minerality" is a defining characteristic of this wine's style. Rauenthal is situated on the southern slopes of the Taunus Mountains, where the vineyard soils—comprising slate, quartzite, and yellow loam—combine with the cool, mountainous climate of the Rheingau to imbue the Riesling with vibrant acidity, distinct minerality, and expressive aromatics.

The nose is dominated by notes of lemon, green apple, citrus, and white-fleshed fruits, accompanied by clear mineral and stony nuances. On the palate, the acidity is lively and the body is light-to-medium; the fruit flavors are fresh rather than cloying. A mineral character runs from the mid-palate through to the finish, which is clean, crisp, and defined by excellent acidic tension.

Kloster Eberbach was founded in 1136 by Cistercian monks from Clairvaux, France. Viticulture soon became a vital economic pillar for the monastery; by the 15th century, it had developed into one of the largest wine estates in the German-speaking world, exerting a profound influence on the wine culture of the Rheingau region and Germany as a whole.

In 1910, Kloster Eberbach helped found the *Verband der Naturweinversteigerer*—the predecessor to today’s VDP—playing a pivotal role in the development of Germany’s system for classifying high-quality wines. The estate remains a VDP member to this day and owns several top-tier VDP.GROSSE LAGE® vineyards.

The estate currently manages approximately 200 hectares of vineyards across the Rheingau and Hessische Bergstraße regions, encompassing numerous top-tier vineyard sites such as Marcobrunn, Steinberg, Baiken, Höllenberg, Berg Schlossberg, and Berg Roseneck. This extensive vineyard portfolio enables Kloster Eberbach to showcase the distinct characteristics of diverse terroirs.

The winery currently places vineyard terroir at the heart of its philosophy; through natural vineyard management, gentle pressing, and meticulous winemaking, it strives to fully express the unique characteristics of each individual plot. The current team aims to craft wines defined by precision, aging potential, and a distinct expression of terroir.
