Le Piano is located in a valley 400-500 meters high, and the winery is right at the highest point of the Montecucco district!The entire valley was purchased by the young farmer Filippo and his father in 1990, and the valley covers a total of 165 hectares.Recognized as a nature reserve by the National Park Service, Le Piano is a certified organic farm with a fully protected natural environment.Le Piano is located on the slopes of Monte Amiata, where streams flow and are surrounded by woods full of vibrant animals.
To realize his vision of environmental sustainability, Filippo, the young estate owner, ensured that every stone and piece of wood used in the inn came from natural materials sourced on the estate. The exterior walls are made of straw, which serves as both a ventilation and insulation material, requiring no electricity whatsoever—making the inn resemble a natural, temperature-controlled environment. Furthermore, Filippo personally oversaw every aspect of the design and construction.
Filippo, who loves nature and champions environmental protection, is a true green advocate and a follower of biodynamic farming. When asked why he chose to farm using biodynamic methods, he enthusiastically exclaimed, “Biodiversity!!! And it’s healthier for the soil and Mother Nature…”
The vineyard on the hillside covers just 1.5 hectares because he wants to leave enough habitat for wildlife. Moreover, biodynamic farming is very time-consuming and labor-intensive—it requires taking the time to do things right—so one person cannot manage a vineyard that’s too large. However, his goal is to eventually expand to about 3 hectares, which will provide him with enough grape varieties to craft his ideal wines.
Colleagues from our company have personally visited the winery and indeed set foot on the land of the vineyard. We can proudly tell you that [Le Piano] is definitely a boutique winery worthy of being discovered and appreciated.
