【One of the most famous breweries in Scotland, Macallan】
The Macallan is one of Scotland's mostfamous distilleries, producing one of the best-selling single malt whiskies inthe world. The winery is located on the banks of the Spey River in the heart ofSpeyside on the Easter Elchies estate on 158 hectares (390 acres) of farmland. The estate includes 37 hectares (90 acres) of barley grown for whiskyproduction.
In June 2018, the property opened a newwinery building with a visitor center. The ultra-modern facility has been cutinto the hillside and features a spectacular undulating, grass-covered timberroof. There are now 12 wash stills, plus 24 stills. Production will increase bya third. With a total of 14 stills, it is said to be the smallest still inSpeyside, although each still has a capacity of 3900 litres.

The Macallan family style has traditionallyleaned towards rich, fruity whiskies, which the late whisky author MichaelJackson described as "Christmas cake in a glass". This is the resultof exclusively using sherry casks to age the spirits, but since 2004, bourboncasks have also been used. The Macallan produces a wide range of whiskiescovering four main ranges. The Sherry Oak range includes four expressionsranging in age from 12 to 30 years old. The "Premium Oak" range -aged primarily in bourbon barrels - offers eight different ages ranging from 10to 30 years. These tend to be lighter than traditional Macallan products.
The distillery also has a variety ofpremium ranges, examples of which are among the most expensive whiskies evermade. A 1926 Macallan sold for $54,000 at auction in 2007, while a 64-year-oldone-off Lalique bottle sold for $460,000 at a New York auction in 2010. priceto sell. The most expensive whisky ever sold was a Macallan M bottle in HongKong that reached $628,000 in 2014.
