ZTF980A-Madame Veuve Point Corton Grand Cru 2017
$780/btl

Madame Veuve Pont was born into a winemaking family. At the age of 26 in 1903, she became a widow. After her husband's passing, she dedicated herself to winemaking while striving to care for her children. She relentlessly pursued excellence, determined to establish herself in a wine industry where female winemakers were largely overlooked. In 1904, she embarked on a six-month voyage to the United States with her family's Burgundy wines to participate in the St. Louis World's Fair. There, she won the “Grand Prix d'Excellence” award! This victory laid the groundwork for her future success.

Now led by fifth-generation female proprietor Géraldine Point, the estate remains firmly in female hands—dedicated to crafting elegant wines with a feminine touch! In recent years, multiple wines from the estate have begun earning awards and high scores! Beyond recognition from numerous international women's wine competitions, the International Wine Challenge, and Wine Enthusiast, the estate's Volnay Premier Cru Clos de Chenes 2019 even achieved a Decanter Platinum rating of 97 points!! Such high scores reveal boundless potential~

The winery employs barrels with great precision. To prevent overpowering oak notes from masking the grapes' inherent aromas, they use no more than 10% new oak barrels and blend wines aged in both oak and stainless steel tanks. During aging, new barrels absorb significant amounts of wine—a phenomenon known as “the angels' share.” The winery pays close attention to this detail, regularly topping up the barrels to prevent excessive oxidation from prolonged exposure to oxygen. This practice preserves the pure, feminine house style while expressing the unique terroir of the region. Aging periods vary by wine, ranging from 10 to 24 months.
This Corton Grand Cru Blanc boasts a magnificent pale gold color with green highlights. Its nose reveals a refined bouquet, mingling notes of citrus, butter, vanilla, and spices, supported by a subtle flinty minerality. On the palate, this powerful and rounded wine delights with its richness, amplitude, and an elegant finish.
