The history of Domaine Poulleau Père & Fils is a classic example of the evolution of an independent, family-owned Burgundy estate. Eschewing large-scale commercial mass production, the winery has built a solid reputation in the prestigious Volnay appellation, driven by a deep connection to the land passed down through generations.

The estate’s history dates back to the 1960s, when it was founded by Michel Poulleau and his wife, Jacqueline Poulleau. Their son, Thierry Poulleau, officially joined the family business in 1983, dedicating himself to vineyard management and winemaking, thereby infusing the estate with youthful energy. Following Jacqueline’s passing in 1995, her daughter-in-law, Florence Poulleau, joined the team to oversee administration and sales. In 1996, Michel officially retired, and the couple—Thierry and Florence—assumed full management of the estate, forming the core leadership team that guides the winery today.

The Côte de Beaune is a wine-producing region located in the southern part of the Côte-d'Or department in Burgundy, eastern France. Together with the Côte de Nuits to the north, it is a source of some of Burgundy's greatest wines, encompassing the vineyard areas situated east and north of the town of Beaune. While the region primarily produces red wines, its white wines are also of exceptional quality. Compared to those of the Côte de Nuits, the dry reds are relatively more robust and tannic; they display a jewel-like red hue and offer aromas of red fruit accompanied by notes of animal musk, forest floor, and underbrush, while the palate is rounded with balanced acidity and good aging potential.

【有關釀造 Winemaking】

Driven by growing environmental awareness and a commitment to preserving the *terroir*, the estate has fully adopted eco-friendly, sustainable viticulture practices; this entails rejecting systemic chemical herbicides in favor of manual soil cultivation and rigorous "green harvesting" (reducing yields to enhance quality).

To further elevate quality, the estate introduced manual sorting tables in 2001 and upgraded its destemming equipment in 2006; while maintaining 100% traditional destemming, the process is designed to keep the berries as intact as possible, thereby ensuring the wine’s pure fruit character.

Currently, the estate’s annual production ranges from approximately 25,000 to 35,000 bottles—typical of a small boutique winery. About half of this output is exported to markets worldwide (including Hong Kong, Canada, and Europe), while the remainder is sold directly at the estate or supplied to local restaurants and connoisseurs in Burgundy.
