WA048D - MitoloSavitar Shiraz 2021
PRICE:$298/@
Production Area:Australia/ McLaren Vale
Grape variety: 100% Shiraz
Alcohol Content:14%
Rich, salty red fruits and concentrated blue fruits, with mineral elements and cedar notes. Long finish with clear lines. Black cherry, damson plum, dried fig, and ripe mulberry combine with firm, refined tannins, featuring a graphite-like texture, along with notes of coffee roasting, chicory root, and cypress wood. The palate is elegant yet powerful.

From Lopresti vineyard lots 10 and 11, which are characterised by Biscay clays over limestone. This was destemmed and crushed, with a relatively cool ferment; raised in hogsheads, with 55% new French oak and 5% new American for 20 months. This needs a little more time than the G.A.M., with its luscious sweep of fruit bound a little by a fine seam of vigorous acidity and grippy tannins – it is built to age though. Red and dark berries, plum and mocha, vanilla and clove, anise. There’s positive development ahead of this but give it a year or so to mesh.

Named after a mythical monster, the 2005Shiraz Savitar emerges from rocky, low vigor soils, and was aged for 16 monthsin primarily new French oak barrels. Dazzling aromas of acacia flowers, blueberries, crushed rocks, graphite, licorice, and espresso roast emerge fromthis tightly knit but intense, fleshy, rich effort. Its multilayered palate, huge body, sweet tannin, and “monster” finish suggest this brilliant wine willbe drinkable between 2008 and 2020. It is a superb example of McLaren ValeShiraz.
【Mitolo – 米多羅酒莊】

The owner and founder of the winery, Frank Mitolo, and his family business ComitFarm are the largest potato and onion packaging and transportation companies in the Southern Hemisphere. In 1999, Frank Mitolo and his wife Simone founded Mitolo Winery, a relatively young Australian winery. Frank Mitolo places particular emphasis on the individuality of each grape variety, advocating a departure from established mainstream flavours to challenge the stereotypical perception of Australian wine. Each wine's style is direct and distinct, blending the subtle differences of various vineyard plots to achieve a harmonious balance between the ‘Italian elegance and restraint’ and the ‘Australian richness and fullness.’ Notably, since 2000, Mitolo Winery has collaborated with Australia's renowned winemaker Ben Glaetzer to co-create the Mitolo series. Ben Glaetzer's signature creations include Amon – Ra (Eye of the Bow) Shiraz, which has been awarded a perfect 100-point score by Robert Parker. His wines are known for their rich fruitiness without any unnecessary frills. The wines from Mitolo also share a similar style.

The winery and vineyards are located in McLaren Vale, which boasts a Mediterranean climate, complex soils and varying altitudes, making it a complex wine-growing region ideal for cultivating many international varieties and numerous Italian native varieties. Mitolo's grapes are almost entirely sourced from vineyards in Sellicks Hill and Aldinga within the region. Sellicks Hill boasts fertile soil and abundant sunshine. Aldinga, located near the coast, is influenced by the cool sea breezes from the bay. These exceptional terroir conditions endow the wines with rich fruit flavours while maintaining good acidity.

The winery grows not only McLaren Vale's renowned Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and other international varieties, but also Italian native varieties such as Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Sagrantino. Over the years, the wines have consistently received ratings of 90 points or higher from Robert Parker, ensuring their exceptional quality. Robert Parker describes them as follows: ‘For a young winery established in 1999, Midoro's meticulously crafted wines are truly remarkable. Each tasting experience leaves me in awe and inspires me in new ways.
