First comes with pure and refreshing white flower, gradually appearing attractive aroma of cane, vanilla, cream and honey. With the warmer climate of Taiwan that brings out the character of malty grain, cedar and angelica sinensis, creates a more subtle but balanced aroma.

OMAR whisky is a brand of single malt whisky produced by the Nantou Distillery in Taiwan, established in 2008. Initially focused on producing blended whisky, the Nantou Distillery decided to shift towards single malt whisky production with the booming whisky market in the 2010s. The name OMAR comes from the Scottish Gaelic word for "amber," symbolizing the color of this whisky and reflecting the distiller's deep connection to Taiwan's terroir.

Distilling Techniques and Features

The brewing process of OMAR whisky combines traditional Scottish techniques with Taiwan's unique climatic conditions. The Nantou Distillery insists on using non-chill filtration methods and does not add caramel coloring, ensuring that each bottle of whisky authentically reflects its terroir characteristics. Due to Taiwan's warm climate, whisky matures in oak barrels 3 to 4 times faster than in Scotland, allowing OMAR whisky aged for 4 years to rival European whiskies aged for over 12 years. The Nantou Distillery also utilizes local water sources and climatic conditions to age various types of oak barrels (such as bourbon and sherry barrels), creating a diverse range of rich and unique aromas and flavors in OMAR whisky. Additionally, the distillery employs local fruit wine barrels for secondary maturation, further enhancing its flavor complexity.

International Recognition and Award History

Since 2014, OMAR whisky has won numerous awards in various international competitions, including the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) and the International Spirits Challenge (ISC). Notably, at the Malt Maniacs Awards (MMA), OMAR won the Best Sherry Cask and Best Bourbon Cask awards for two consecutive years and was recognized as the Best Brand.
