ZF639C - Chateau Potensac 2014 Medoc

Special price: $215/bottle

Origin/level: France / Bordeaux / Medoc

Grape variety: 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot

Alcohol content: 13.5%

Part of the wine is brewed with old barrels from Chateau Leoville Las Cases (Lion Winery). Rich black fruit aromas. Blackcurrant with hints of coffee and liquorice. Powerful structure, very direct, but with soft tannins and a pleasant mouthfeel. The nose is a fusion of red and black fruits, with lively acidity and a hint of pepper on the finish, quite elegant.

It’s been a while since I had a Potensac like this.Aromatic, very structured and polished with currant character and wonderfullength. Polished tannins. Exceptionally small production for this year.

With low yields after a hail storm, the wine isconcentrated and dense. It has a touch of wood aging as well as dark blackfruits. The tannins are firm in a wine that will age well over the medium term.Drink from 2023.

Introduction: It has been verified that Chateau Potensac was first owned by the Liquard family, but in 1970 it was owned by the Delon family of Chateau Leoville Las Cases and Chateau Nenin. Under the management of the Delon family, the quality of Chateau Potensac was obvious to all. Before the 1855 classification, it was recognized as a fifth or even fourth level winery, but unfortunately it became a missed gem in the end. It was not until it was selected as a Cru Bourgeois mid-level winery that the regret was alleviated. After Michel Delon passed away in 2000, his son Jean-Hubert inherited the business. At the same time, Jean-Hubert also took new changes, introducing new stainless steel fermentation equipment and refurbishing some old equipment. The winery uses 30% new barrels and strictly pays attention to quality to maintain an excellent brewing level. The soil conditions are the familiar alluvial slag and some red clay on the Left Bank. The grapes are picked, selected and sent to stainless steel barrels for fermentation at a temperature of about 28°C. After 15 to 18 days of infiltration and precipitation, the wine reaches a certain balance and is then put into oak barrels for aging. About 40% to 45% of the wine will be made into La Chapelle de Potensac. Today, Chateau Potensac has become one of the few Exceptionnels in Cru Bourgeois. Brewing process: Grapes are hand-picked and fermented in large stainless steel barrels. After being filtered through egg white, they are placed in oak barrels for further aging. 30% of the oak barrels used for fermentation are new, and the remaining 70% come from Chateau Leoville Las Cases. The planting ratio is: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The average age of the trees is 35 years.

Maturation : The grapes are picked by hand and fermented in large stainless steel barrels. After the egg white is filtered, they are placed in oak barrels for further aging. 30% of the oak barrels used for fermentation are newly manufactured, and the remaining 70% comes from Chateau Leoville Las Cases.

Vinification : The planting ratio is: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The average tree age is 35 years.

Tasting record : Rich black fruit aroma. Blackcurrant flavor accompanied by a touch of coffee and licorice. The structure is strong, very direct, the tannins are soft and comfortable, the red and black fruit aromas are combined with a touch of pepper, and the end rhyme is quite elegant and charming.
