Among Suntory's many whiskey brands, Mr. Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory, aimed to "create a Japanese whiskey that is not inferior to Scotch whiskey" and created his first masterpiece, this "corner bottle". The unique tortoise shell pattern design on the outer bottle is inspired by the traditional Japanese glass craft "Satsuma Kiriko". It is said that the name "corner bottle" was not originally on the wine bottle label. It was a nickname given to it by wine fans because of the shape of the bottle. It was not until later that "corner bottle" evolved into an official product name.
