Kurayoshi Whisky Distillery was founded 13 years before Yamazaki by Matsui Sakuzo in 1910 in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture, and started as a taro shochu distillery, which was derived from Tottori Prefecture's second-to-none water quality, and then began researching whisky. Kurayoshi Whisky is made from carefully selected whisky and is made from natural spring water from the Oyama mountain range, which is a rich natural resource. Kurayoshi has been recognised by the Japanese liquor industry as an outstanding whisky, combining whisky and sherry casks.

Kurayoshi Distillery is a subsidiary distillery of Matsui Sake Brewery, founded in Tottori Prefecture in 1910. Kurayoshi Distillery, which is situated next to the Oyama mountain system in Tottori Prefecture, takes its name from the fact that ‘Kurayoshi’ represents the origin of ‘good life’, and with the mountains on one side and the Sea of Japan on the other side, the difference in temperature between the warm and cold makes whisky maturing a lot quicker. It can be said that the nature of this area has created Kurayoshi whisky. Although the number of people at the distillery is small, we are all moving forward together with the intention of making the best whisky we can with our own hands.
Matsui Brewery was founded in 1910 in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, and has a history of 107 years. At first, it started by making taro shochu, but because the water quality in Tottori Prefecture is one of the best in Japan, Matsui Brewery began to develop another line of liquor sales. After the taro shochu, they began to research whisky, and this research and development and improvement created the great taste of today's Kurayoshi whisky, which is made from carefully selected Northern Scotch whisky and distilled in Japan. The whiskies are made using carefully selected Northern Scotch whisky and Japanese domestic distillation techniques, as well as the rich natural resources of Tottori Prefecture and the natural spring water of the Oyama mountain range. Kurayoshi has been rated by the Japanese spirits industry as an outstanding whisky with honeyed lemon sugar and malt flavours on the palate.
