Very pretty pinot noir with sliced strawberry, cherry, cedar and sandalwood aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, it has a lovely freshness and brightness.
The winery boasts a 150-year winemaking heritage spanning six generations, with the "Tiraki" brand established in 2020. It commemorates the uniquely blessed, cloudless climate sheltered by the Marlborough Mountains, enabling the estate to craft its most elegant wines. The winery pays homage to the region's original Māori name, "Ke Puta Te Wairau," honoring Māori traditions and the deep connection to this land.
The spirit of Tiraki is one of seeking adventure and new experiences. Beyond crafting exceptional wines, the estate hopes clear skies become a conversation starter, a catalyst for exploration. "The parting of clouds" symbolizes new beginnings and optimism. Through Tiraki wines, the estate ignites a desire to share its joy, passion, and spirit of adventure with the world.
The estate's ancestors were among the first settlers to migrate from Europe to the Marlborough region. Langfield Farm was established by their forebears in 1870. Over 150 years of weathering storms and six generations of relentless effort, this 260-hectare property has undergone tremendous transformation. Yet Tiraki's commitment to the highest quality remains unwavering, carefully preserving this legacy for future generations.
Since 1999, the estate has evolved into expansive vineyards cultivating diverse grape varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Long hours of sunshine, significant day-night temperature variations, clay soils, and the winery's meticulous teamwork combine to produce exceptional grapes. This foundation allows the winemaker to craft world-class, one-of-a-kind wines.
Hand-harvested grapes, with 15% fermented as whole clusters to enhance aromatic intensity and freshness. Fermented with natural yeast and macerated for 24 days to extract beautiful color and structure.
Aged entirely in French oak barrels, including 10% new oak, imparting refined complexity.
A complex and intense Pinot Noir, displaying aromas of cherry, dark spices, and violet. The palate offers black cherry and plum flavors intertwined with subtle spicy oak notes and velvety tannins, complemented by wild herbs that provide structure while maintaining elegance. Grapes are hand-picked, with most destemmed and fermented in four-ton open vats.
