【Winery】

Vereinigte Hospitien, often compared to the German version of the Beaune Poorhouse, is a winery frequently mentioned in the wine industry.
Founded in 1804 by Napoleonic decree, the winery was formed by the merger of several medieval church hospitals and monasteries in the Trier region. It inherited numerous valuable vineyard plots from these monasteries, and all proceeds from wine sales are donated to social welfare causes such as elderly care, disability assistance, and medical aid. It is one of the few non-profit, top-tier wineries in Germany and a founding member of the VDP (Vintners Deutsche Grammophon) alliance of German wineries.
The "SEIT 1804" printed on the bottle is the winery's founding year, and the image of a pilgrim on the label is a classic symbol that has been used for over a century.
The winery does not pursue commercial profits; its winemaking focuses on expressing the terroir, adhering to hand-harvesting, minimal intervention in winemaking, and temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks to maximize the preservation of the unique characteristics of each vineyard. The winery owns several VDP Grosse Lage vineyards in the Mosel and Saar Valley, with Piesporter Goldtröpfchen being its flagship plot.
【Region】
Goldtröpfchen, meaning "golden droplet," is the most prestigious Grosse Lage vineyard in the Mosel.
The vineyard features a semi-circular, amphitheater-like south-facing slope with gradients reaching up to 70%, adjacent to a large bend in the Mosel River. The river reflects sunlight, creating an exceptionally warm environment. The soil, composed of Devonian weathered blue slate interspersed with quartz, boasts excellent drainage and a distinctive salty-mineral character—the soul of this wine.
Unlike many of the leaner, more austere vineyards in the Moselle, the Rieslings from Vineyards Gold Drop are characterized by their vibrant and exuberant fruit aromas, deep mineral character, relatively full body, and exceptional aging potential. The entire vineyard covers approximately 80 hectares, almost entirely planted with Riesling.
【Winemaking】

This Vineyards Gold Drop Late Harvest Riesling adheres to the classic low-intervention winemaking tradition of the Moselle, focusing entirely on preserving the authentic terroir of the Grand Cru. It boasts a clean, sophisticated palate and a pure, unique flavor profile.
The winery selects grapes from old vines on the south-facing, steep slopes of Vineyards Gold Drop, strictly adhering to late harvest standards. This allows the grapes to ripen 7-14 days later than a basic Riesling, naturally concentrating floral and fruity aromas and slate minerality, while retaining the signature crisp acidity of Riesling. The entire harvest process involves meticulous hand-sorting of each bunch, removing defective berries, strictly controlling yield, and maximizing the fruit's flavor.
The grapes are pressed using a gentle, low-pressure whole-bunch pressing process, eliminating any bitterness or off-flavors from the seeds and stems, and preserving the original sweet fruit aromas to the fullest extent. The pressed juice undergoes 24–48 hours of natural settling and purification, without the addition of chemical clarifying agents; only the pure, free-flowing juice is used to retain the terroir's true character.
The wine's core flavor originates from a natural, low-temperature, slow fermentation process using local yeasts from the vineyard. Fermentation is carried out slowly at a constant temperature of 12–16°C, fully locking in the fresh fruit aromas of white peach, citrus, and white flowers. Fermentation is precisely stopped at the target alcohol level, with no artificial sugar added throughout the process. The wine's elegant semi-sweet style is achieved through the grapes' natural residual sugar, paired with vibrant acidity, resulting in a perfectly balanced sweetness without being cloying.
The wine is aged entirely in stainless steel tanks, without oak barrels, eliminating any external flavor interference and fully showcasing the unique slate-like, salty, and mineral character of the Golden Drop vineyard. The wine is softened by light lees contact, resulting in a round and full-bodied palate while maintaining its clean and clear appearance. The process is pure and natural, meeting vegetarian wine standards. Bottled precisely the following spring, it balances the freshness of immediate enjoyment with aging potential of over ten years, making it a prime example of a late-harvest Riesling from a Moselle Grand Cru vineyard.
