Domaine Victor Richard is a historic family winery in the Jura region of France, located in the village of Le Vernois, in the heart of the Revermont Mountains. It has been passed down through the Richard family since 1824. It is currently led by Christophe Richard, who joined his parents, Odette and Victor, in 1996 and officially took over in 2007. The winery, which spans 7.3 hectares and employs organic farming methods (certified organic in 2021), focuses on the five traditional Jura grape varieties: Chardonnay and Savagnin for whites, and Pinot Noir, Poulsard, and Trousseau for reds. The winery emphasizes respect for the soil and nature, minimizing the use of pesticides through hand-harvesting, green harvesting, and soil cultivation to showcase the unique Jura terroir.

The estate's Côtes du Jura Chardonnay is one of its signature white wines. Made from 100% Chardonnay grapes and aged in oak barrels, it imparts a distinct Jura flavor. Unlike the classic Burgundy style, this wine, influenced by the Jura's clay-limestone soil and microclimate, exhibits a dry, delicate, and fruity character. With aging, it develops subtle aromas of almond and hazelnut. The balanced palate, with fresh fruit and gentle oak notes, pairs well with seafood, poultry, or cheese. The estate also produces Chardonnay and Savagnin blends, such as Le Paradis, a 70% Chardonnay/30% Savagnin blend that adds nuances of nutty spices, perfectly embodying the elegance and power of Jura white wines.

The Jura region lies only about 80 kilometers from Burgundy's Côte de Beaune. Besides describing the region itself, the name of the mountain range separating France from Switzerland is also Jura. We often hear of the Jurassic period, and it turns out there's a real connection: rocks from the Jurassic period, dating back two million years, were first discovered in the Jura Mountains.

Jura's vineyards are interwoven among forests and grasslands. Four AOC appellations—Arbois, Château Chalon, L'Etoile, and Côte de Jura—each have their own distinct character. Despite its proximity to the Jura Mountains, the vineyards are not located at quite the same altitude. Most vineyards are located between 220 and 450 meters above sea level, comparable to the 250 to 340 meters of Burgundy's Côte d'Or. The soil is mainly limestone and marl of different colors, both of which are rich in marine fossils. For example, the limestone in the Arbois region contains rich oyster fossils, so this area can produce excellent Chardonnay.
