Louis Jadot is one of the most representative wineries and wine merchants in Burgundy, and is also a world-renowned wine brand. Since its establishment, Louis Jadot has been famous for producing high-quality, classic Burgundy wines, covering a full range of wines from entry-level to top terroirs. As a representative name of Burgundy, Louis Jadot not only has a profound historical heritage, but also enjoys a high reputation in the global market.
Louis Jadot Winery was founded by Louis-Henry Jadot in 1859 and is located in Beaune, the heart of Burgundy. Initially, the main business of the winery was the management of the family-owned Beaune Premier Cru – Clos des Ursules vineyard, which is still one of the winery's signatures. Under the family's management, Louis Jadot's business gradually expanded from vineyards to the wine merchant field, and acquired many high-quality Burgundy vineyards. In the mid-20th century, the winery was taken over by Andre Gagey, who promoted Louis Jadot to the international market, making it a global synonym for Burgundy. In 1985, Louis Jadot was acquired by the American wine company Kobrand Corporation, but the winery is still managed by a local Burgundy team on a daily basis and managed by Andre Gagey's son Pierre-Henry and grandson Thibault. The traditional winemaking method is retained, while injecting modern marketing and management models.
Pierre-Henry Gagey is the former president of the BIVB Burgundy Wine Industry Association and the owner of Maison Louis Jadot. He learned about wine from his father since he was a child and obtained a master's degree in business management from the Reims Business School, which gave him a more open vision and unique perspective on wine. In 1985, he joined the winery and took over the winery business from his father in 1992. After becoming the owner, he built wine cellars in Beaune and Beaujolais, and partnered with the winery's veteran winemaker Jacques Lardière to create many Burgundy wines with extraordinary quality and excellent aging potential. They focus on expressing the unique style and personality of each vineyard, so that each of the winery's fine wines faithfully reflects the characteristics of the terroir.
Louis Jadot is one of the few Burgundy wineries that can span the entire appellation, owning or controlling more than 150 hectares of vineyards, covering all the main appellations of Burgubdy, from Chablis in the north to Beaujolais in the south. Here are the main characteristics of its vineyard terroir.
Chablis: In the northern Chablis region, Louis Jadot produces mineral-based Chardonnay.
Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune: These two core regions of Burgundy produce world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and Louis Jadot owns several Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, such as Clos Vougeot, Corton-Charlemagne and Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru.
Beaujolais: Louis Jadot is an important producer in the Beaujolais region, especially known for its Beaujolais-Villages and the ten premier villages, such as Morgon and Fleurie.
