The famous wine manga "The Drops of God" introduced the 2001 Château Mont-Perat in its very first volume! In the manga, Château Mont-Perat 2001 defeated the iconic American cult winery Opus One, earning it a reputation as a "noble among commoners."
Château Mont-Perat was mentioned as early as the 1864 edition of the wine guide Féret, where it was praised as the jewel in the crown of the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. In 1998, the Despagne family acquired the estate. After years of hard work, they have elevated its performance to an extraordinary level.
"The Drops of God" compared this wine to the rock band Queen—classic yet highly modern—making it an overnight sensation and incredibly hard to find. The book described it like this: "This wine is so delicious; I found myself falling in love with it without even realizing. Because it is so powerful, you can feel the sweetness melting in your mouth and the tight acidity expanding across your palate. It feels like the sweet yet husky voice of Queen's lead singer, enveloped by a thick guitar riff and heavy drumbeats... How should I put it? It feels very classical, yet it's not. It has more of a modern touch, so I still think it feels like Queen."

The nose on the 2022 Mont-Pérat still needs to cohere and offer more fruit—this is a bit surly and backward. The palate is medium-bodied, spicy and peppery, with a touch of sapid black fruit and a finish that deserves better aromatics. Give it a year in bottle and keep fingers crossed.

A juicy, fruity and spicy red, showing cherries, strawberries and warm spices. Medium-bodied, this has velvety tannins and finely grained texture with a delicious stream of purple berries and a flavorful, persistent finish. Drink from 2026.

Always a good value, the 2022 Château Mont-Pérat sports a deep ruby/plum color as well as a perfumed bouquet of red and blue fruits, spring flowers, violets, and a chalky, mineral-like character. It's medium-bodied, has wonderful fruit, ripe tannins, and a good finish.

Supple and generous, this is full of crisp and gently sweet blackcurrant, cherry and plum fruits with a smooth, silky tannic structure that feels so effortless on the palate. Still concentrated and tannic no doubt, but balanced. This feels well worked and lifted with lively acidity keeping the fun factor and clear menthol freshness on the finish.
