The sleek black bottle immediately identifies this gin as special. Slingsby Navy Strength Gin uses the same botanical blend, including primrose, sweet cicadae, nettle, rhubarb, milk thistle, rosehip, and Taylors of Harrogate green and jasmine teas. This gin creates excellent body and strength while maintaining a classic smoothness. The name "Navy Strength" follows the Royal Navy's "testing" tradition, meaning that if gin were accidentally spilled on gunpowder, the gunpowder would still ignite.
Tasting Notes: As the citrus notes round out, softer, earthy botanicals become more prominent, adding a balancing saltiness. The reduced Harrogate spring water brings out less pronounced botanical aromas like jasmine and green tea. Mature juniper and subtle vanilla notes, combined with licorice root, create a delicate and sweet finish.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve chilled or with premium elderflower tonic
Grapefruit Cocktail:
- 50 ml Slingsby Navy Strength Gin
- 50 ml Freshly Squeezed Pink Grapefruit Juice
- 5 ml Rose Lime Juice
- 5 ml Simple Syrup
Shake all ingredients with ice until smooth. Pour into a tall glass lined with lime and salt, then add ice cubes. Garnish with pink grapefruit.

The story begins in the North Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate, the birthplace and inspiration for the Slingsby brand.
In 1571, William Slingsby discovered the uniqueness of a natural spring in Harrogate called Tewit Well. His discovery attracted thousands of visitors to ‘fetch’ the water, which was believed to have medicinal properties and to this day, many people from all over the world come to this spa town to heal their bodies, minds and souls. Slingsby wanted to blend his own Gin with the ‘Spirit of Harrogate’ and create a delicious Gin for everyone to enjoy. Slingsby wanted to combine their Gin with the ‘Spirit of Harrogate’ and create a delicious Gin for everyone to enjoy.
Inspired by this story, Marcus Black and Mike Carthy, the founders of the brand, set out on an adventure. They wanted to create a product that celebrated the heritage of the small town of Warm Springs and incorporated the essence and restorative qualities of Harrogate. It took them over 15 months and 18 different gins to decide on the perfect recipe, and in 2015, Spirit of Harrogate was born.
Slingsby's Gin is crafted using 24 selected botanicals. These include hand-planted native plants from the kitchen garden at the Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate, as well as fruits from local Yorkshire suppliers, which are used in the flavouring range; for example, Rhubarb Gin is made with fruits from the world-famous ‘Rhubarb Triangle’ in Wakefield, while Yorkshire currants and blackberries from Spilman Farm in Yorkshire are also used. Yorkshire currants and blackberries from Spilman Farm in Yorkshire are also used. These are combined with a handful of the finest ingredients from around the world, such as grapefruit peel, which gives London Dry Gin its delicate citrus flavour, and the most important ingredient of all - piney juniper berries.
Slingsby's master distiller, based at Langley Distillery in Birmingham, has over 35 years' experience of producing premium gins. A skilful combination of water from the Harrogate Aquifer, pure single grain spirits and carefully selected botanicals and ingredients are then finished and bottled in North Yorkshire.
