Domaine Gerard Raphet is located in Morey Saint Denis, Burgundy, France. It has 12 hectares of vineyards, mainly distributed in well-known production areas such as Gevery-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, including first-class vineyards and grand-cru vineyards. The family has a brewing history of more than 100 years, and the fourth generation is currently running this winery. Marion Raphet, the fourth generation of the winery, Gerard Raphet’s daughter, has taken over the winemaking work in recent years. She is the first person in the family to receive formal winemaking training. Her winemaking philosophy is similar to that of her father, both of whom hope to use wine to express their aging experience. The actual appearance of the vines and plots.
The century-old vines of the winery have created the foundation for high-quality grapes. The soil of the winery is limestone and clay, with a suitable slope and conducive to drainage. No pesticides are used in planting, and the harvesting is completely manual. The grapes are fermented with natural yeast. Gerard does not prefer extraction. The color of the grape skins is used to enhance the tannins and the color of the wine, and more attention is paid to the freshness, elegance and refinement of the grapes themselves. After fermentation, the wine is aged in barrels for 18 months before being released on the market. The proportion of new barrels is about 15%. It is bottled without filtration and without clarification.
As mentioned above, Domaine Gerard Raphet is located in Morey Saint Denis. This production area was established in 1936 with a vineyard area of approximately 140 hectares. It is connected to the village of Gevrey-Chambertin to the north and Chambolle-Musigny to the south. It mainly produces Pinot Noir red wine, and only about 5% of its output is white wine.
The grape vines are taken from the manor's own vineyard 'Les Millandes'. Facing the vines to the east, it is located in the northwest corner of this first-class vineyard and borders the grand-cru Clos de la Roche. The soil is mainly brown limestone, like Clos de la Roche, but with more clay. The wine is said to be always soft and inviting, with lovely chocolate notes.
Clos de la Roche is the northernmost Grand Cru vineyard located in Morey-Saint-Denis. Covering an area of 16.9 hectares, Domaine Gerard Raphet has only one row of grapevines in the garden. Therefore, the production of this wine is quite rare. The aroma is exceptionally beautiful and even fragrant, with hints of plums, red currants and a hint of exotic tea. Full and round, with a balanced and long finish.
