In 1995, under the cooperation of the famous Marchesi De Frescobaldi family of Florence, Italy and the legendary Robert Mondavi family of Napa Valley, the United States, Luce della Vite Winery and The Luce Estate were established in the ancient town of Montalcino in the southwest of Italy. Mr. Vittorio Frescobaldi, head of Marchesi De Frescobaldi, once said: "Through our skills and insights with the Robert Mondavi family, we hope that our cooperation will create a unique and exquisite wine." Luce della Vite means "light of life" in Italian, from which we can see the intentions of the two major families, Marchesi De Frescobaldi and American Robert Mondavi. Currently, Robert Mondavi has withdrawn from the business and is solely owned by the Frescobaldi family.
The winery is located at an altitude of 350 to 420 meters above sea level, making it the highest vineyard in the entire Montalcino region. The higher altitude provides better environmental conditions for growing Sangiovese grapes. The abundant sunshine and dry summer effectively help the growth of grapes in the southern part of the estate, giving the grapes a large amount of rich fruity aroma; and the cool night climate adds a complex and varied texture to the grapes.
The winery has launched four wines, each with its own charm, namely Luce IGT, Luce della Vite Lucente IGT, Luce Brunello, Lux Vitis and a grappa brandy, Grappa di Luce.
Luce is the first Montalcino blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, a perfect harmony between the structure and elegance of Sangiovese and the roundness and softness of Merlot. Luce is the estate’s signature wine. Lucente is the result of carefully selected estate grapes from vineyards that are particularly suited to producing fruity, rich, flavorful wines. Like the above-mentioned Luce, it is also a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot.
Luce Brunello is made from 100% Sangiovese and is produced in "Albo del Brunello di Montalcino". The winery says the wine is a tribute to Brunello di Montalcino. In 1980, the first Italian wine received the Denominazione d’Origine Controllata e Garantita certification. Today it has become one of the symbols of Italian quality wine.
It took years of careful crafting and accumulated experience to create the flagship wine - Lux Vitis. It all started with a Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 2004 on the mixed sandy soil of Montalcino. Over the years we have watched these vines grow and have been amazed by the exceptional quality of their grapes, so we decided to create a unique wine. Cabernet Sauvignon is the main component, supplemented by Sangiovese, and aged in new French oak barrels for 24 months, adding an elegant style to the wine.
