【Aberfeldy】

Aberfeldy Distillery Aberfeldy is located on the outskirts of Aberfeldy Village in Perthshire in the middle of the Scottish Highlands in Scotland, UK, only 8 kilometers away from Loch Tay. On this beautiful grassland, the clear and pure Pythiri River flows through, the air is filled with the fragrance of heather and birch, and there are wheat fields full of golden wheat ears, forming a harmonious coexistence between man and nature, rich and delicate ecological portrayal.

In 1896, John Dewar’s son proposed the plan to establish the Aberfeldy distillery. In 1898, Aberfeldy officially opened for business and is the only Scotch whisky distillery established by the Dewar family. At that time, Dewar’s was already a very successful blended whisky brand, known for its excellent quality. Since the production of blended whisky requires a large amount of single malt whisky, Dewar established Aberfeldy, and Aberfeldy lived up to expectations. Since its establishment, the single malt whisky it produces has been an important component of Dewar’s blended whisky. During the First World War, there was a shortage of barley as food, so Aberfeldy had to stop operating from 1917 to 1919. The same situation happened during the Second World War, and the distillery had to stop operating again. In 1925, Distillers Company Limited acquired Aberfeldy. Under DCL management, in 1972 Aberfeldy stopped growing its own malt and bought malt from large malt factories. In the same year, the distillery purchased four new steam-heated stills to replace the old stills. These two measures by DCL reduced the cost of Aberfeldy's whisky production and increased the distillery's capacity. In 1998, Aberfeldy's ownership changed again and was finally acquired by Bacardi.

The Dewar family's pursuit of perfection in whisky production continues to this day. Today, Aberfeldy buys unpeated malt from the factory and brews whisky by double distillation. Aberfeldy has four stills, two of which have a capacity of 16,500 liters and two of which have a capacity of 15,000 liters. These four stills are typical Scottish stills: large bodies, long necks, and lyne arms extending upwards. The shape of the body allows the refluxed liquid to flow back into the still, filtering out the pungent smell from the liquor. There is no pinch at the joint between the lane arm and the neck, and there is no reflux bowl at the neck, so not only is part of the liquor with the pungent smell filtered, but all of it. Aberfeldy's warehouse is an old brick building, but because the distillery's warehouse can no longer meet the increasing demand for whiskey, Aberfeldy now transports the whiskey to other warehouses in Scotland for maturation. The distillery uses American bourbon barrels to age the whiskey, which gives Aberfeldy's whiskey a soft taste.
