Test Report, April 13, 2026:
Visuals and Aroma
Upon pouring, the color is a beautiful, light, watery gold. Even before tasting, the aroma is already apparent, a typical southern French atmosphere. The most prominent notes are white florals interspersed with refreshing citrus and lime flavors; it doesn't smell cloying at all, but rather vibrant and invigorating.
Palp Experience
The most surprising thing about the first sip is its balance. Because it's produced in Haute Vallée de l'Aude, where the climate is less cool, the wine has a crisp acidity, unlike some affordable Chardonnays that are overly sweet.
The best part is its festival "Bâtonnage" (stirring barrel). After sipping a bit, you'll notice that besides the fruity flavor, there's a subtle, oily quality reminiscent of freshly baked bread or a cream cake. This technique gives the beer a fuller body and more layers of flavor, yet the finish remains clean and long, with a lingering peachy white aftertaste.
Tasting Tips
This beer really doesn't taste as good chilled. Around 12°C is ideal for releasing its full aromas. Also, while the sheet is recommended to decan for half an hour, I found that it's actually quite good to drink it immediately after opening. Letting it sit in the glass while it's in contact with food allows for a delightful flavor transformation.
"Anne" is actually a man's name: Many people who hear "Anne de Joyeuse" for the first time might assume it refers to a female landlady named Anne, but that's not the case. The name is in honor of Anne, Duke of Joyeuse, a close friend and general of King Henry III of France in the 16th century.
Historical Origins: Henry III granted the Limoux region to the Duke of Joyez, who made a significant contribution to its development into a renowned wine-producing area in the 16th century. The winery's name is not only a tribute to history but also carries a touch of classic French romance.

Anne de Joyeuse's ability to cultivate the delicate Pinot Noir so successfully is attributed to its unique geographical location.
The winery's Pinot is primarily planted in the Haute Vallée de l'Aude, situated at a high altitude in the foothills of the Pyrenees.
The warm Mediterranean sunshine provides the grapes with ample fruit aromas and ripeness; the cool breezes from the Atlantic and the chilly air from the Pyrenees create significant diurnal temperature variations. This "warm days, cool nights" environment is the ideal condition for Pinot Noir to develop its delicate aromas and retain its crisp acidity.

"Very Limoux": The winery named this single-varietal series "Very," a pun on "Très Limoux" (extremely Limoux). The core concept of this series is to minimize oak barrel finishing, aiming to allow drinkers to directly and purely experience the authentic flavors of the Limoux terroir through a single grape variety (such as 100% Pinot Noir or 100% Chardonnay).
Breaking the stereotype of cooperatives mass-producing inexpensive wines, this winery is recognized as one of France's top ten highest-quality wine cooperatives, currently bringing together over 350 passionate local grape growers. The winery's winemaking team rigorously controls the planting and harvesting standards of each vineyard to ensure that the final wines showcase the highest quality.
