Aperol is positioned as an 11 proof aperitif and is officially known as “Aperol”, while Aperol Spritz (officially translated as “Aperol Orange Light”) is an Aperol-based Spritz cocktail! Aperol Spritz is an Aperol-based Spritz cocktail that tastes of citrusy, herbaceous flavors with a bitter-sweet undertone. The Aperol Spritz, on the other hand, has a familiar refreshing floral and fruity sweetness.

【7 years of experimental research and development】

Created in 1919 by the Barbieri brothers Luigi and Silvio in their father's liqueur company, Aperol is an aperitif made after seven years of experimentation. It soon became one of Italy's favorite liqueurs, and in the early post-war years and beyond, Aperol became popular throughout Italy, especially among the young people who gathered in Padua's cafes and traditional Venetian bars.

In the 1950s, the famous recipe that made the Aperol Spritz cocktail so popular was born. This was also the time of the first Aperol TV commercial “Il Carosello”.

A period of great positive impetus for the spread of Aperol began, acquiring a more international and cosmopolitan dimension. Now it is even a global craze. The original recipe remains unchanged and is still a secret.

The Italian word “Aperitivo” appeared as early as 1786 in Turin, Italy, literally meaning a pre-dinner drink and gossip, usually an hour before the main meal. However, given the nature of Italians, it is not unusual for them to drink all morning or all afternoon, and the name Aperol is said to be derived from Aperitivo. This poster by artist Carlo Pandolfi depicts a gentleman with money and leisure passing by a bar where the bartender greeted him with an amused, “The same old thing? ” Keeping his eyes open, the clock in the square is about to point to 12 noon, suggesting that this gentleman sleeps until the sun is high and dresses up for brunch with a ceremonial glass of Aperol.

What food goes with Aperol Spritz? The official Instagram answer is “Cicchetti”, an assortment of flavorful Italian snacks, similar to finger food, which can be enjoyed with a small plate of marinated olives or Mozzarella cheese. But since Aperol Spritz is an easy, no-holds-barred cocktail, it's refreshing enough to go with just about anything.
