Winery Information:
Beaulieu Vineyard began 121 years ago with a beautiful story of a beautiful vineyard. To surprise his beloved wife, in May 1900, Georges sold his original business and purchased a 4-hectare vineyard and estate called Rutherford in Napa Valley, USA, thus ushering in a new era. When Madame Fernande first laid eyes on the land, she exclaimed, "Quel Beaulieu!"—French for "What a beautiful place!"—and the estate was named accordingly. This investment proved exceptionally wise for the De Latour family. In fact, shortly after purchasing the vineyard, the vines suffered a severe phylloxera infestation. Fortunately, Georges's expertise in viticulture enabled him to cure the infected vines. Within a decade, he propagated a million phylloxera-resistant rootstock vines, revitalizing Napa Valley's wine industry. Georges became a prominent and influential figure in the region.
Prohibition began in the United States in 1919, forcing many American wineries to close their doors. However, Château BV secured a government contract to become one of the designated suppliers of wine for church activities, allowing it to survive this challenging period. In 1922, Georges de Latour observed a growing demand for sacramental wine in Rutherford.
When Prohibition ended in 1933, Georges de Latour emerged as a wealthy man with state-of-the-art winery equipment. He ventured beyond everyday table wines, boldly focusing on research and innovation. He began crafting high-quality wines requiring oak barrel aging, determined to fully express Rutherford's terroir in his wines. He waited until Prohibition ended before introducing these wines to the general public.
In 1940, BV wines were selected by successive U.S. presidents as the designated wines for White House state dinners. Over the past 70 years, nearly every U.S. president has chosen Château Pichon-Longueville to entertain foreign dignitaries, heads of state, and royalty. Celebrities such as Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Roosevelt, and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill have all praised it highly.

Region:
BV's exclusive oak-aged Cabernet Sauvignon, patiently awaiting the lifting of restrictions, is finally available for sale. Mr. Georges de Latour preferred to sell these high-quality wines rather than supply regional distributors with lower-tier, ordinary wines. These wines garnered widespread acclaim across the globe, including in New York. Mr. Georges de Latour cultivated BV 3, a vineyard plot owned by the church, on the eastern side of Rutherford, where the highest quality vines were planted.
Winemaking:
After producing a small yet exceptional vintage in 1936, Georges de Latour realized that achieving higher quality wines required adopting new winemaking techniques akin to those used in France. He needed a professional winemaker who not only understood European winemaking standards but also possessed the expertise to craft world-class wines. At BV Winery, expertise must always guide the process, regardless of individual capability. In 1938, Georges de Latour returned to his homeland, Bordeaux, France, to seek the winemaking talent who could help him realize his dream. There, he met Mr. Andre Tchelistcheff, a Russian winemaker working at INA—a renowned viticulturalist and winemaker. In September of that same year, Mr. Tchelistcheff arrived in California to work for Georges de Latour. From that moment on, California wines began to exhibit characteristics unlike anything seen before.

Extremely complex aromas of currant, coffee, spearmint, Thai basil and sandalwood. Full body, firm and chewy tannins yet linear and exciting. Just a baby. Fantastic structure here.🏅 Wine Advocate 96 pts
A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, 88% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it gives up compelling kirsch, sautéed herbs, crème de cassis and baked plums notes with touches of tobacco, fallen leaves and dried mint. Full-bodied (14.9% alcohol) and solidly structured with firm, chewy tannins in the mouth, the palate is packed with muscular fruit lifted by herbal accents, finishing long and savory.
