Bernard DELAGRANGE & Fils vineyard spans 23 hectares, distributed across VOLNAY – POMMARD – BEAUNE, 10 kilometres away – MEURSAULT – 10 kilometres from the finest red wine appellations: Saint-Romain, Meursault, Auxey-Duresses, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Bourgogne Chardonnay, Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, and Aligoté white wines.
During the grape harvest season, pressing is followed by vinification in our cellars at Meursault. The wines are transported to the cellars for maturation in oak barrels for several months (10 months for whites, 18 months for reds).
Throughout this period, we tend to the wines with care: tasting, topping up; completing malolactic fermentation; undertaking the first racking, followed by bottling by our own hands.
These wines are stored in cellars dating back centuries, awaiting dispatch throughout France and beyond.
【Domaine Bernard Delagrange & Fils】
Cistercian monks have owned vineyards since the 11th century, settling in Meursault (21 Côte d'Or, Burgundy) where they harvested white wine for Mass.
We do not know who built the estate of Domaine Bernard DELAGRANGE & Fils (formerly Domaine Lobot de la Barre) was built, but we know that in the 15th century, Lobot, personal physician to Duke Charles the Bold, resided here. Members of the Lobot family had settled in Burgundy, originating from Portugal like the Duke's mother.
The cellars, which had stored wines for the Duchy of Burgundy since the 15th century, feature a two-storey structure. This architectural style is exceptionally rare in Burgundy, with only 13 such buildings known to exist.
Bernard and his wife Delagrange, whose family had cultivated vines in Volnay since the French Revolution of 1792, established their estate and home in Meursault in 1972. Bernard
DELAGRANGE restored a perfectly harmonious ensemble of buildings, including the main house, outbuildings and cellars, all centred around a flower-filled courtyard. With the help of their son Philippe and grandson Alban, they ensured the continuity of this remarkable property.
