The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées has a crisp, tensile bouquet with cranberry and raspberry fruit, a touch of tobacco and crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, a gentle grip in the mouth, smooth and quite silky with a finish that caresses the mouth. This is a superb Chambolle-Musigny with great tension and a long cassis-tinged finish. Excellent.
Boursot Père & Fils dates back to the 16th century. As early as 1550, ancestor Guillaume Boursot began cultivating grapes and producing wine in Chambolle-Musigny, establishing a long-standing family-run winery with a sterling pedigree. 13th-generation descendant Rémy Boursot and his wife Annick Boursot officially founded Boursot Père & Fils. Today, in its 15th generation, the family is jointly managed by their two sons: the eldest, Romaric Boursot, is responsible for marketing, while the second, Romuald Boursot, serves as winemaker and oversees vineyard management.
The winery has been repeatedly mentioned by wine critics Jasper Morris and Neal Martin as a small-scale winery worthy of attention. Although it has already gained some fame locally, it is still a little-known product in the international market and is also a potential stock that has not yet been inflated.
Les Fuées Premier Cru is Boursot's proud flagship Premier Cru, second only to Les Amoureuses in quality and reputation. With vines over 75 years old, it sits high up on a slope just a stone's throw from the Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares. Geological investigations have confirmed it's an uphill extension of the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru. It's a hidden Grand Cru, and you can enjoy it at Premier Cru prices!
Les Fuées, covering 4.38 hectares, is located in the southwest corner of Chambolle-Musigny, sharing an altitude of 280 to 300 meters with Bonnes-Mares. The southeast-facing vineyard has a gently sloping soil structure that is both complex and full of character.
The soils on the upper slopes are thin, rich in limestone and hard rock, while those on the lower slopes are thicker and richer in clay. This geological setting seamlessly connects with Bonnes-Mares, ensuring that the grapes absorb the rich minerality of the parent rock, imparting a rigorous structure and depth of flavor to the wines. Furthermore, the unique microclimate conditions here ensure that the wines of Les Fuées combine elegant fruit with complex minerality, exhibiting exceptional balance and depth.
Les Fuées is not only geographically closely connected to Bonnes-Mares, but also shares many common terroirs. However, Les Fuées wines retain the characteristically elegant aromas of Chambolle-Musigny while displaying the distinctive earthy notes and depth of flavors of Bonnes-Mares, creating a sense of elegance while maintaining a touch of wildness. This fusion gives Les Fuées wines a softer power and richer complexity than many Bonnes-Mares varieties, making them beloved by many wine lovers.
All grapes at the winery are hand-harvested. After rigorous selection, fresh grapes are quickly transported to the winery. After destemming and crushing, the juice is transferred to fermentation tanks for fermentation. The winemaker determines the fermentation time based on the ripeness of the grapes, generally taking about 15-25 days. The wine is then transferred to oak barrels for aging, ranging from 18 to 24 months. Finally, the wine is bottled and packaged at the winery.
