James Suckling 93 pts — What an expressive nose of white peach and spring blossoms this beautiful Puligny-Montrachet has. So lively and elegant on very focused medium-bodied palate with crystalline purity at the long mineral finish. Drink or hold.

Chapelle de Blagny Winery is located in the village of Blagny in the Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France. It is located on a high slope between the two famous white wine villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, with an altitude of nearly 400 meters and a unique cool terroir.
The history of the winery can be traced back to the 12th century, when the Cistercian monks first cultivated vineyards here. In 1811, the Bréchard family acquired the land and has been passed down for seven generations. The winery retains the residence, wine cellar and the ruins of the Saint-Denis Church built in the 15th century, with a profound historical heritage. Later, it was divided into two independent wineries, Domaine Comtesse de Cherisey and Domaine Chapelle de Blagny.

The vineyards of Blagny Village span Meursault and Puligy-Montrachet. The soil is mainly marl and limestone. The topsoil is thin and the bedrock is exposed. The vines need to go deep into the barren soil to absorb nutrients, giving the wine a unique minerality and acidity. Chapelle de Blagny has five first-class vineyards on the Meursault side, including La Jeunelotte and La Piece sous le Bois. Although Pinot Noir was the main grape in the past, most of them have now been planted with Chardonnay. Among them, La Piece sous le Bois is located below the forest on the top of the slope, 350 meters above sea level. Its southeast orientation gives it both mature fruit aroma and refreshing acidity. It is one of the first-class vineyards with the highest altitude in the Meursault region.
The owner Etienne de Brechard has led the transformation of the winery since 2015, built a new winemaking workshop and focused on winery production, which has significantly improved the quality. Although organic certification is not explicitly mentioned, many Burgundy wineries focus on traditional winemaking, such as fermentation with natural yeasts, low-intervention processes, and aging in oak barrels (usually with a low proportion of new barrels) to give the wine complexity. The winery's vineyard management emphasizes terroir expression, such as strictly controlling yields in shallow soil plots to concentrate fruit flavors.

The winery's core products are mainly Chardonnay whites, and the typical style combines the rich fruitiness of Meursault with the mineral purity of Puligny-Montrachet. For example, the Meursault first-class cru La Piece sous le Bois dry white has citrus, apple and spice notes, bright acidity and elegant structure, and has significant aging potential. In addition, although the red wine (Pinot Noir) from the village of Blagny is produced in smaller quantities, it also shows the fine tannins and red fruit characteristics of high-altitude terroir.
The grapes come from the high-slope Hameau de Blagny first-class cru, where grapes have been planted since the 11th century. Due to the shallow topsoil, there is a limestone layer below, which can give the wine a charming mineral flavor. It exudes pleasant aromas of lemon custard, orange and white peach. The overall aroma is rich and layered, and the minerality brought by the aftertaste is even more distinct.
