Chateau Chasse Spleen is the first generation of Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 1932 (only 6 were selected), and it is the pinnacle of the Bourgeoisie. In 2003, Bordeaux Cru Cru Bourgeois was officially selected for the first time, and was officially rated as Grand Cru Cru Bourgeois; later, the Cru Cru Bourgeois were no longer subdivided, and the Grand Cru Cru Bourgeois led by Chateau Wangyou and Poujeaux withdrew from the selection.
The winery was built in 1560 and officially changed its name to Chateau Chasse-Spleen in 1860, which means "forget worry". After changing owners several times until the 1970s, the winery was purchased by the experienced Merlaut family, pushing the level of the winery to a peak again; in the late 1990s, the third-generation owner updated the equipment and brewing style, and the wine quality performance was even higher. .
Decades of growth have ensured excellent and stable wine quality and established his own brand image in the industry. Even if he is not present in the 2020 Bourgeois selection, his reputation among many Bordeaux wineries has long been far greater than that of Bordeaux. Many intermediate and even listed wineries, even the well-known wine critic Robert Parker praised them, and even bluntly said that it has the value of Bordeaux third growth.
The winery is located in the Moulis district, which is between St. Julien and Margaux. The average tree age is 30 years, and the planting density is 8,000-10,000 plants in gravel, clay and chalk soil. After harvesting by hand, they are fermented in stainless steel and concrete fermentation tanks, and then aged in oak barrels for 12-14 months (40 % for new barrels). The wine produced has a ruby red color and tastes of black currant, licorice, cocoa, black cherry, mulberry leaves and spices. Balanced structure, fine and ripe tannins, round and full mouthfeel, good aftertaste and high concentration.

The 2020 Chasse-Spleen has a ripe nose of blackcurrant and strawberry pastille, a little more opulent than its Left Bank peers. The palate is well balanced with plenty of fruit and a touch more rondeur/lower acidity, but it doesn't compromise on freshness and fans out nicely toward the finish. This is very promising.
