Lalande-de-Pomerol is an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank, having received its AOC designation on 8 December 1936. Separated from the renowned Pomerol appellation to the south by the Barbanne river, it is sheltered to the west by the Fronsac Hill. Lalande-de-Pomerol benefits from the terroir of its renowned neighbours: Saint-Émilion, Pomerol and Fronsac, producing robust wines.
Here, one finds none of the Left Bank's grandiose châteaux, none of the aristocracy wielding political influence, nor bankers whose wealth rivals nations. Instead, the estates resemble scattered farmsteads with tiled roofs, winding country lanes meandering through rustic, tranquil landscapes.
This is an exceptionally value-for-money appellation, bordering Pomerol and sharing its stylistic profile, yet commanding prices significantly lower than Pomerol's renowned wines. It stands as a treasure trove for discerning wine enthusiasts.
