Entre-deux-Mers is the largest sub-region in Bordeaux and also the most special one. Although the literal translation of the name in English is "between two seas", to be more precise, it should be called "between two rivers". Because it is located between the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers, but please note that all areas between the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers can be called Entre-Deux-Mers, but the Entre-Deux-Mers region is not the same as the Entre-Deux-Mers region. For example, the Saint-Foy region, Cadillac region, Loupiac region, etc., although geographically belong to the area between the two rivers, do not belong to the Entre-Deux-Mers region.

Entre-Deux-Mers produces almost exclusively white wine, though a little Merlot is sometimes produced. There are many styles of white wine produced in the Entre-Deux-Mers region, including the sweet white wines from Cadillac, the dry white wines from Loupiac and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, and so on. All white wines using Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscadelle and Ugni Blanc were once labeled "Entre-deux-Mers". Interestingly, most wineries don’t do this now, preferring to label themselves “Bordeaux Superieur”. This may be because they have separated from Entre-Deux-Mers to become an independent appellation, or it may be because they did so after becoming an independent appellation.
