Introduction: Bodegas Faustino occupies 650 hectares in Rioja Alavesa. Exporting to over 100 countries worldwide, Faustino is the globe's foremost producer of Gran Reserva Rioja wines.

Despite its remarkable achievements, the winery continues to innovate, with its latest release showcasing this commitment to winemaking excellence. Crafted from 86% Tempranillo, 9% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo, it undergoes 26 months of ageing in French and American oak barrels. A luxurious bouquet of burnt wood, vanilla, black and red fruits, black cherry, prune and blackberry syrup. On the palate, it is supple yet possesses a powerful structure and robust tannins, alongside ripe blackberries and sweet coconut. Still very young, it stands as a benchmark for Rioja's exceptional long-term quality.

The Star of Rioja — Bodegas Faustino

Founder Eleuterio Martinez Arzok was an ambitious visionary. In 1861, he purchased an estate with vineyards in Rioja, establishing Bodegas Faustino.

Subsequently, the phylloxera epidemic that swept across Europe nearly destroyed his dream, yet this family winery ultimately weathered these challenging times.

In 1920, Faustino Martínez Pérez de Albéniz and his father began restoring their vineyards.

Today, Bodegas Faustino occupies 650 hectares in Rioja Alavesa. Exporting to over 100 countries worldwide, Faustino is the world's best-selling producer of Gran Reserva wines.

Despite the winery's remarkable achievements, it shows no signs of slowing down. Its relentless pursuit of winemaking excellence is vividly demonstrated in three newly released vintages.

These new additions are: Gran Faustino 1955, the Faustino Art Collection Willy Ramos Edition, and Icon Reserva Especial (the newly released 2014 vintage being only its second).

Gran Faustino first appeared in 1963. The 1955 Gran Faustino emerged after eight years of ageing. To mark the wine's 55th anniversary in 2018, the estate decided to share 2,555 bottles of Gran Faustino 1955 from its cellars, inviting the world to savour this vintage refined by time.

The cultivation and winemaking techniques of that era were far less precise and advanced than today's methods. Consequently, the most efficient means of transporting grapes involved placing them in wicker baskets, which were then secured to the flanks of donkeys or horses for delivery to nearby cellars. Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes underwent a process akin to semi-carbonic maceration before fermentation commenced – a crucial step in ensuring quality.

The Art Selection range fully embodies the winery's contemporary winemaking philosophy. Crafted exclusively from Tempranillo grapes, this fine wine was once presented as a gift to Spain's most influential artistic master, Willy Ramos (who is also an admirer of the estate). Willy Ramos emigrated to Spain from Colombia at the age of fourteen.

Ramos drew inspiration from the portrait of Dutch merchant Nicolaes Van Bambeeck to redesign the winery's wine labels. After months of creation and numerous revisions, Ramos finally delivered a satisfactory result. Ramos himself remarked: ‘The label is brimming with colour, vitality and emotion, just like Fostino wines.’

Undoubtedly one of Spain's most renowned wine brands, Faustino does not rest on past laurels but continues to forge ahead, crafting wines of ever-greater texture, depth and excellence.

While steadfastly maintaining its foundations, Bodegas Faustino cultivates close engagement with a new generation of consumers and wine enthusiasts, eagerly anticipating further creative collaborations with world-renowned artists.
