Brewed using the ‘Toyun Ume Kernel Matured Method’, in which only the kernels of plums are soaked to bring out the full flavour of the plums, this plum wine has a full, almond-like sweet aroma, and is aged for three years, and blended with brown sugar to create a deeper plum wine.
This plum wine is made using the ‘Toyo Seed Matured Method’, in which only the seeds of plums are soaked to extract the full flavour of the plums, and has a sweet almond-like aroma and a strong flavour made with brown sugar from three years of aging.
Merian is a subsidiary of Kirin, Japan's leading beer producer, and is currently the largest wine producer in Japan.
The factory is located in Nagano and Yamanashi Prefectures, which are the major wine brewing centres in Japan. The company also produces alcoholic products such as plum wine and shochu. The brewing method of plum wine is patented by the ‘cold maturation method’, while shochu products have won a number of awards.

Kirin was founded in 1907 and has been in business for over 100 years. Kirin owns a number of multinational beverage companies and agricultural-related companies that have become one of Japan's largest food and beverage conglomerates, with annual sales of more than 2 trillion yen. For example, its Yoncho-gen company was originally a manufacturer of Chinese wines in Japan, and its best-known wine is Gu Yue Long Shan; it also owns a large-scale Fuji Goten Brewery and Fukatani Brewery, which are now under Kirin's umbrella.
Currently, the proportion of overseas sales has exceeded 40%, and the company has invested in many izakaya and restaurants as sales channels.
