【Chateau Lalande Borie】

Chateau Lalande-Borie is located in theSaint-Julien appellation of Medoc on the left bank of Bordeaux. Originally athird-class winery Chateau Lagrange, it was bought and rebuilt in the early1970s by Jean Eugane Boire, the owner of second-class winery ChateauDucru-Beaucaillou and fifth-class wineries Chateau Grand-Puy Lacoste andChateau Haut-Batailley, and became part of the Borie family. It has high andstable quality and is a well-known and high-level winery in the Saint-Julienregion.

Chateau Lalande-Borie vineyard covers an areaof 25 hectares, with excellent soil texture and carefully cultivatedvineyards. The upper layer of soil is fine gravel, and the deeper layer iscoarse sand and soil. The vineyard has an excellent water supply and drainagesystem, and contains a large number of thirty-year-old vine grapes, including65% thirty-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Thetraditional method of pruning grape vines is to use a single-bar, double-armpruning method, manually remove excess leaves, thin the fruit in summer, andcontrol yield. The planting density is 8,500 plants per hectare. Managed by Mr.Xavier Borie, it has gained a good reputation in just a few years, withappropriate tannins and elegant typical aromatic Saint-Julien style, and isknown as the most cost-effective Bordeaux wine.

In the Chateau Lalande Borie vineyard, allgrapes are picked by hand. As they are transported to the barrel room, they aresorted directly on the motorized grape sorting table, separating unhealthygrapes from healthy ones to avoid them coming into contact. Alcoholicfermentation is carried out at a relatively low temperature (26 to 28 degrees)to preserve the best fruity aroma of the grapes. Gentle pumping avoidsextracting too much tannin and achieves a pleasant richness. Free-run wine andwine from the press (pneumatic press) undergo malolactic fermentation in vatsfor optimal control. The wine is bottled in barrels that contain 20% to 30% newbarrels, depending on the vintage.

“Soft and delicate, with rich flavors such as black cherry andvanilla bean,” the well-known wine magazine Decanter commented on Chateau Lalande Borie 2017red wine.
