ZTF186A - Le Petit Cheval 2012

Château Cheval Blanc is situated in the Saint-Émilion appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank. In 1954, it attained the highest honour of ‘Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A’ within the Classification of Saint-Émilion wines. Throughout subsequent reclassifications every decade, it has consistently maintained this top tier.

In days gone by, the vineyard grounds featured a quaint inn where King Henry would often rest whilst riding his beloved white steed. Thus the inn came to be known as the “White Horse Inn”. After its conversion into a vineyard, it was naturally referred to as Château Cheval Blanc. Secondly: when this land belonged to Château Figeac, it was not extensively planted with vines but served as Figeac's stud farm. It was later sold and extensively planted with vines to become a vineyard, formally named Château Cheval Blanc. Regardless, Cheval Blanc's origins share a common historical lineage with Figeac. Château Cheval Blanc is the longest-held estate within the Saint-Émilion appellation by a single family. In 1998, the estate embarked upon a new chapter. Bernard Arnault, Chief Executive Officer of the LVMH Group, and Baron Albert Frère, Belgium's wealthiest individual, assumed stewardship of the estate. Respecting the estate's traditions and history, Bernard Arnault and Baron Albert Frère retained the original winemaking team while introducing innovative concepts to further elevate the quality of the estate's wines. The estate's current iconic new cellar was constructed according to their vision, embodying a futuristic aesthetic while harmoniously integrating with the surrounding vineyard landscape. Completed in June 2011 and designed by renowned architect Christian de Portzamparc, this new cellar spans 6,000 square metres and houses state-of-the-art winemaking facilities. These include 52 concrete fermentation vats of varying sizes, tailored to accommodate the specific vinification requirements of grapes from different vineyard plots.
