ZF019E-Chateau Les Grands Chenes 2017
$108/btl

Chateau Les Grands Chenes is a popular choice in the Médoc. Its vineyards are situated around an ancient 16th-century castle, and the winery's viticultural history dates back to 1880. Since 1998, Bernard Magrez has managed Chateau Les Grands Chenes and hired the renowned "flying winemaker" Michel Rolland as his winemaking consultant. With a top-notch professional team as a solid backing, the quality of wines produced by Château Liguanxuan continues to improve, with frequent releases of fine wines, demonstrating considerable potential.

The wine is aged annually in 50% new French oak barrels for at least 18 months, resulting in ample tannins. A few of the more affordable wines possess exceptional aging potential. Under the guidance of consultant Michel Rolland, earthenware tanks are often used for partial aging to enhance the wine's finesse, earning praise from major wine critics.

A refined, balanced red with currant, chocolate and hazelnut character. What your really notice is the finesse and balance to the tannins, giving the wine length and composure. Lovely finish. Drinkable now, but better in 2022.
