WC025A - Loma Larga Malbec 2022
Loma Larga

Loma Larga's great-grandfather, Don Manuel Joaquín Díaz Escudero Alvarez de Toledo, personally led the expedition to Paris and Bordeaux. With the advice of a French winemaker, he planted the vines on his farm, ‘Chakra Victoria’, located east of what is now Santa Rosa Street in the city of San Diego. With the dream of preserving this wine-growing tradition, which had led its ancestor to produce high-quality wines that were exported to Europe, as noted at the 1889 Wine Fair in Paris, the family began planting the current Loma Larga vineyards in 1999. Climatic and soil studies were initiated in 1994 to understand the potential of the ‘terroir’ of Loma Larga. Today, Loma Larga Vineyards is recognised as a leader in Chile's cold climate red wine production.

Loma Larga's philosophy is to produce wines that faithfully express the Fundo Loma Larga terroir, reflecting the uniqueness and specificity of the Casablanca region, and Loma Larga has conducted more than 20 years of research and testing to differentiate Loma Larga from the vast majority of Chilean wine regions. Since 1999, Loma Larga has planted 148 hectares of vineyards with white varieties and inks, some of which are not traditional to the Casablanca Valley, such as Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Syrah: an avant-garde idea that has been very successful since the first harvests and has received unqualified support from national and foreign critics, and which has been a great success for the region. Loma Larga is now recognised as the leading vineyard in Chile's cold climates.

Loma Larga wines are 100% from Casablanca vineyards. With high concentration and good phenolic ripening in a cold region like Casablanca, the wine is produced in limited quantities at Fundo Loma Larga. To achieve this, Loma Larga selects the best vineyard wineries for very delicate processing.

Due to the extreme temperature variations between day and night, the breezes from the Pacific Ocean cause slow ripening in the valley, a phenomenon that adds terroir to the wines, in addition to the poor soils of the Lomas (hills, Lomas) and Cerro Foothills hills.
